Please don't call out fraud if you aren't going to post the full story. This was back during the peak of the graphics card shortage, where all resources were scarce. Their warranty states they may use refurbished parts as repair parts, but often do not unless inventory demands it. Anyways, here is the timeline of events:

Customer received a bad card.

IBuyPower replaced the card within MSI refurbished card, which is within the terms of the warranty.

Customer card starts to die later, so customer tries to claim warranty through MSI.

MSI shows card was already claimed, so customer posts to Reddit.

IBuyPower then replaces the card out of good faith, even if it was out of warranty.

Nowhere in that timeline does fraud by IBuyPower occur, and all was made right in the end. Here is the update that the Reddit OP posted https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/16r5tdk/comment/k2162rs/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=... [reddit.com]

7700 vs 7700x
16GB RAM vs 32GB
3060 Ti 8GB vs 7800XT 16GB
600W vs 700W PSU

I agree that both rigs are decent, but the $250 price difference for the IBP is justifiable.

IMO, they are quite different. Especially for gaming purposes. This system is substantially better.

More RAM, GPU is both faster and has twice as much VRAM which will make some games playable at higher resolutions. The CPU is slightly faster as well. I would much rather have the lancool 216 over the omen case. The airflow on this is excellent.

Nope ..it's a 4060 TI and only needs a 16gb ram update that's well under $250
Plus it's HP
?
OP's post has a 7800XT, that's $150 more than the 4060 Ti on Amazon. The more powerful PSU and double the video memory on the GPU makes OPs deal better for future proofing especially if you're doing more than 1080 gaming.

Just to note.

Customer bought new PC. Video card was bad so they replaced it. In their warranty, it says they may use refurbished parts.

That link does explain it all but the person posting it is misrepresenting this link as fraud. Maybe there are others but this is not it.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank asuchemist

That seems fishy. Why would the MSI Agent be sarcastic like that? Doesn't ibuypower use any parts they have in stock on the shelves? Could of been pulled from another computer.

I think most of these outfits do that. As long as it works....

For those that don't want to read the reddit: Customer sent entire computer in for repair and was given a refurbished/repaired replacement part. They ended up giving him a new card...

Check your purchase agreement, even the big boys like dell will throw in refurbished parts.

Heck apple gave me a refurbished iphone and ipad 3 years ago and they still work.

how does this rig compare this the one in the deal?

Intel Core i9 12900K (3.2GHz) Processor
32GB DDR4-3200 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Graphics Card
1TB NVMe SSD
2.5GbE LAN, WiFi 6 (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.2

I see that the the 4070 is kicked its butt vs the 4070 but is the difference in cpu and ram big?

In 2002, I bought an Athlon XP 1800+ with a geforce3 from ibuypower.
They replaced the video card shortly after, with a geforce3 that had an engineering sample BIOS installed (it would warn the product was not available for sale on start up)

I thought it was kinda fun to see pop up. Seemed to perform alright regardless.

If the price were the same, I would probably prefer the Powerspec PC. The GPU comparison is complicated. I think I would probably take the 4070 if all else was equal. The 7800XT has more VRAM and slightly better raster performance in most titles. However, the 4070 has DLSS and better RT performance.
