I also own two lodge Dutch ovens. 5 and 7 quart. Had the 5 qt for over a decade. It works great and no chips.

I'll never understand the dumbasses that thumbs down legitimate questions.

Anyways, I've this and Le Creuset of similar volume (but wider and lower). The Le Creuset is much lighter and the ceramic is slightly easier to clean. Now is it worth the extra $200? That's up to you. They come in very nice colors but we use both our dutch ovens equally and neither does a better job doing the actual purpose of the cookware which is cooking.

Good product. Good price, though not the best pricing ever. Out of stock. Chinese enamelled cast iron dutch ovens can be found around $30-$35 if you're willing to wait, and wait.

I have Lodge 4.6 and 7.8 quart Dutch ovens. I use the smaller one often and rarely use the larger one. If I had this 5.5 size I probably would not need the larger one. They gradually discolor on the inside but are easier to clean than stainless steel.

I have this and it's great, I even use it along with grill tongs to brown all sides of my pork shoulder before it goes into the crockpot. Sometimes on Slickdeals I see dutch ovens on sale for one hundred dollars and more and I wonder if they're objectively better in any way.

Affordable alternative to a Le Creuset?

ETA: Thanks to those who replied to my sincere question and the 4 people who appreciated it enough to give it a thumbs up. To the one person who took it upon himself to thumbs down this post: an observation. No matter how sincere, insightful or informative a reply here at SD, there always seems to be one person who can't help themselves from expressing their personal displeasure with someone's contribution to the SD community. I'm not talking about the occasional snarky or sarcastic comment that might rub someone the wrong way. Except for those occasions, I'm left to wonder what dark corner of the world some people inhabit where they have nothing better to do than troll an online forum for the opportunity to inject their private misery into an otherwise useful discussion. You have my pity.

I own Le Creuset and it chipped pretty fast. Where my lodge I had for over a decade never chipped.

It doesn't, and it's not supposed to. Lodge products are a good compromise between quality and price.

Yes, I trust Lodge products. Their cast iron stuff is nice for the price same for the Dutch ovens. As long as you take care of them they will last.
As nice as a Le Creuset? Of course not, but for most home chefs who don't use dutch ovens daily, it will last.
