So, I bought the 5.1.2 from the last time it was posted for $89. I was planning to run as 7.1.2 with my Emotiva T2+ and Onkyo rz50, while saving up for Emotiva's center, back, and atmos speakers. But after setting up the center and two front satellites as back surround speakers, I am running as 5.1 as I run out of wires for other speakers. I am also reevaluating my earlier plans and most likely will not be getting the Emotiva's B1 bookshelf speakers as surround speakers. I will get the center as the dialogue sounds a bit off compared to t2+ towers. The satellite speakers are very well built, and deceptively heavy compared to their size. The subwoofer is a letdown in the set, but for the price I paid, I wasn't expecting it to shake my room. Overall, the satellite speakers get plenty loud and clear. I think when running on their own, the center will also be fine. It may not be the best system for music, but for the price, it is a decent home theater set to watch movies with surround sounds.

Most people who are buying a 9-channel receiver are going to want higher end speakers than these. I think they'd sound fine for a small room. I'm not dissing them. It's just that 9-channel receivers are probably going to be around a grand after taxes. It doesn't really make sense to me to pay a grand for a receiver but only $130 for speakers.

You have to have a 9-channel receiver for this?

Yea, it's 5 + 4 height channels, so the receiver would need 9 channels + sub out.

You could just not wire up the rear height channels, to get 5.1.2, which is 7 channels.

Height channels belong on the ceiling well above your ears.

Trying to figure out wiring of these before I buy. I already have the room wired but with a single wire to each spot.

Does the front left and right and surround left and right require 2 speaker wire connections? One for the normal speaker and a second for the top firing atmos speaker?

They ideally would be ceiling mounted, but DTS-X and Dolby Atmos both recommend alternative products for those that can't. They do this by aiming a driver upwards from the normal speakers to bounce off the ceiling and reflect back.

they sound OUTSTANDING for the price. Absolutely outstanding. I bought the 5.1.2 for $80 last week and I legit feel like I robbed Monoprice.

It is now out of stock, but for the price of less than a soundbar and if you pick up even just a 5.1 receiver from somewhere for dirt cheap it is a pretty decent system. for not a lot of money!
It was highway robbery at that price. I combined the $80 5.1.2 speakers with the Onkyo 6050 ($299 at Adorama) for under $400 and my system sounds SOOOO incredible. This would have sounded great as a $1000 system. It has all the gaming features. No dropouts. I was able to use DTS:X on my Xbox Series X and it eliminated all the audiosync issues that Dolby Atmos has.

Did you wall mount? What wall mounts did you use and are you happy with them?

I'm replacing a 3 decade old (guessing, it came with the house) bose system that I won't be able to use the mounts from.

Thanks. Since there already is wire there I'll see if I can use that to pull fresh wire. If not, worse case I don't hook up the top speaker for no atmos.

I apologize if this is a dumb question. Can you plug this all directly to the tv or do I need a receiver ?
