Same thing with the big cases of Monster energy drinks. $8-10 shipping for me.
I switched to Plus a few years ago specifically for the free shipping. And then within the last 12 months, they just suddenly changed it and started charging for shipping on some things. Most items are still free, but sometimes they do charge for heavier stuff, and it's really expensive if you just want to order one thing.
Another really deceptive thing they've started doing is charging a shipping fee in a roundabout way. The price you pay in-store is often cheaper than the price you pay online. e.g. Crest mouthwash is $7.98 in club, but $8.98 online - so your shipping is "free", but in essence they're charging you a hidden fee. A lot of retailers are starting to do this one.
I know with Walgreens they will show you what pending rewards you will earn on an order (though that's not always set in stone).

2. Can we buy $40+ 3rd party GCs to get the $10?
There is ZERO requirement that a Plus membership is necessary to do this deal. Only that you make a $40+ online order.
I also don't like the fact that they don't show that you qualify when placing the order.
Update: actually I'm thinking that link that shows the offer may have been intended for just the recipient. I can't find it anywhere on the website when I login.
