These aren't going to be much, if any, different from your box meals that used dried potatoes in them.. think Betty Crocker Au Gratin ... your instant mash potatoes are nothing more than dehydrated potatoes with seasoning added in.

You can create soups, stews, and other meals... suitable for camping trips as well.
Potato chips are fried... not dehydrated.
Dumb question. Is this any good for "regular" eating? Most of this kind of stuff falls under the survival category. It has always been my understanding that you give up things like taste, quality, so forth, as a trade off for storage life.

So, can you actually eat this type of stuff and enjoy it? Does the stuff actually eat like a potato? Pardon my ignorance. Just want information before making a decision.

As a heads up, this is the Regular price at walmart ($8.08):

This is just the standard `trying to make it look like it is on sale` tactic, just FYI.

So, is this a fancy way of saying it's a chip? Or...?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Like some fancy overpriced Pringles

Some people are sensitive to the common food additive (preservative) Sodium Bisulfite.

Instant mashed potatoes have a long shelf life too.

Explain baked chips, then.

baked chips are potatos that are shredded, pressed into shapes, then baked

the point you have missed is that all forms of potatos are typically cooked before consumption. if you buy these, stick them in water, you will have the rough equivalent of raw potato slices. fried and baked chips are not just dried, they are cooked in the process.

pringles are cooked potatos, these are dried, uncooked potatos and if eaten directly will turn from a crunchy dried raw potato to a mushy raw potato as you chew

I haven't used these specifically, but I do use the dehydrated hash browns. Some people have to get used to them, but I like them. Of course, fresh is always best, but desiccated is OK too. Use them for soup. I think if you rehydrate them and dry them, they could be good for about anything.

I have cans of Campbell's chick noodle soup older than 10 years. Its on my pantry shelf labeled zombie apocalypse.

Are you planning to use them as a weapon? Because they will be mush.

Au Gratin makes sense. I get it now. Thanks!
