I have the YAS-108/ATS-1080, essentially same as this model with a couple of minor cosmetic changes. Purchased in 2019 when I upgraded to a larger display (Vizio P-75).
It will offer a definite improvement in sound over the built-in speakers. Sound is fuller with notably more depth and bass, provided you don't try to push it too hard. I liked the Yamaha so much that I even considered picking up a second one to use as a space efficient wall mounted blue tooth speaker in another room for casual listening. Saying that, it does not replace a dedicated home theater system if you want a room filling immersive experience.
BTW, I have the Vizio integrated into a robust 5.1 home entertainment sound system with a true 700W amp which I rarely use, only turning the HTS on when watching movies. The Yamaha sound bar is more than adequate for normal use.
About the only negative is that I could never get the ARC to work reliably with my display and finally attached through the analog inputs, not a very elegant solution but sounds fine and rock solid.
Bottom line, for $100, this is a very good sound bar, very convenient and more than adequate sound.
Can the volume control be integrated with my Sony TV remote ? Or do I have to use the Yamaha remote? Just bought a 90K Sony TV, planning on using the optical connection or does the HDMI ARC work better for this function ? Never used HDMI ARC before.

Read you post after replying...and the memory nerve endings reconnected.
CEC compatibility was the problem with the YAS-108/ATS-1080. I cannot definitively say whether the connection problem was within the Vizio or the Yamaha but it was unreliable. After spending spending several hours trying to get the HDMI / ARC to work, gave up and connected using the standard analog input.
I had something similar happen to me where getting the soundbar to turn on via ARC was unreliable. Turns out, if I used the TV (Samsung) remote it worked every time. It was only when I tried to turn on/off the TV with the cable box, Roku, etc remotes it didn't work.
one more request: any recommendations about additional speakers along with this yamaha around to make the experience better?
You may add a modest 8" or 10" powered external sub for a fuller sound. I have the YAS-1080 and added a little 10" Jamo side-firing sub and disabled the sub sound feature on the soundbar. I think it keeps the soundbar performing within the frequencies it can reproduce best and adds a fuller dimension to movies. Deals like this for Jamo, Monoprice, JBL, or Polk subs pop up from time to time. $100-$150ish. usually a 100W class D amp built in.

It's Costoc, I just ordered one, mine will arrive in 2 days, let's see it in person, everyone's ears and listening are different, if it turns out meh, they can have it back.
No. I have the 1080 and love it for my bedroom. Do not expect thumping bass, but the surround sound is exceptional. Add an external subwoofer if you need more boom.
Sonos Beam 2 is like 3x the price of this and vastly superior. No comparisons IMHO.
Well, DUH...

Depends upon whether your Sony remote can be programmed to control Yamaha amplifiers. Suggest you read the manual.
Re using the HDMI ARC, my experience that can be hit or miss. The Yamaha has the physical port connectivity but depends upon what else you have attached to system, that's the "CEC" element. CEC is the protocol that allows devices on HDMI to communicate with each other. Problem is, not everyone plays in the sandbox nicely. Cable boxes are some of the worst. Also, the display vendor may sell accessories (sound bars, players, etc.) which will likely have seamless integration (Surprise!) while no guarantees with 3rd party products.
Another solution is to buy an intelligent remote that will support all devices.

I have this and its great as far as sound quality goes.
My main issue was it can't connect to multiple BY devices at once. If its paired to your phone then you have to manually disconnect before someone else can connect to it. Switching from TV to BlueTooth is a pain have to be done manually using remote or using the controls on the speaker itself.

I love the rather liberal use of the term "subwoofer" on 3" drivers.
Great price.

It's a great soundbar for the price. You can also download the Yamaha Sound Bar Controller app for some additional fine tuning
