I have the game (just the base game), I've played it for 10-15 hours, have played about half the levels and have unlocked less than half the cars.
The DLC looks fun- waiting for a better deal on that.

My grandson was super in to Hot Wheels when I got it and he had plenty of fun with it as well.
It was included on Playstation a while back so I downloaded it and gave it a shot. Theres a "story" and online play. You can do the story against AI, but as you go through the different tracks you're eventually gate locked by time trials. So if you don't use the right car or find the right line and can't beat the time trial you can't continue. So you can win all the other races with your favorite car, only to find it's not good enough for a time trial. And while the tiem trials aren't necessarily hard if you get the right car, choosing the right car or running the same track for 20 minutes to get that 1 magical time can be annoying and certainly repetitive.
The game is rife with micro transactions of course. You can buy boxes which contain mystery cars, or just buy the car outright.
There is a track builder option, but of course you have to unlock features through game play (see previous comment about story mode), or buy them outright. I'm sure some will have an absolute blast building tracks and trying to race your friends etc. I got bored with it quick.
I played for a bit and then decided I was done. It's in my Playstation library, but I doubt I'll go back to it. It is cool that you can collect cars, but they're just digital representations, I'd rather grab some real Hotwheels. YMMV
