Wrong. The prices are the same. The OP linked to the travel pack which is a different product than the backpack. The 20L backpack is also currently available for $140.

? Not sure where you read that. The exterior is marine vinyl which is water proof, that's why they used it. The zippers are water resistant and seem to seal out water really well. it's the primary reason I bought the travel pack years ago.

Edit: fwiw I love the travel pack. I use it to travel for work and for that purpose its worth its weight in gold. Speaking of weight, that's the downside to the water proof material. The pack weighs a few pounds even empty. Its not a featherweight. The zippers are pretty stiff as well so they take some effort to move. I thought they would loosen up over time, but that hasn't been true, which is good and bad. I bring up the weight because they weigh carry ons in europe. I've been busted there with the bag but my average across all bags was fine, so they let me board with it without paying extra.

That said, the pros outweigh the cons for me. It fits my 16" m2 mbp laptop in the sleeve just fine. Love the shoe sleeve and all the elastic pockets for cables and such. It also has a luggage pass through to slide it over a carry on roller handle. I also tuck the straps into the back plate (it snaps shut) so the straps don't dangle into the aisle when I slide it under the airplane seat in front of me. It's the only bag I carry on nearly all of my work trips. Fits a few days of clothes easily, without expanding (I rarely expand it).

I have the 14L backpack from the previous deal. Not the travel pack but it's similar.

It doesn't scratch easily as far as I can tell. The zippers are stiff because they are water resistant. I got used to it but when I use my other backpack I do miss the amazingly easy zippers. The backpack is heavy. I noticed that for some reason although it's heavy it's comfortable enough to ignore it. I think it's because the backpack does not sag at all. It holds its form. The smaller size is more comfortable for me, I am only 5'7". The straps don't have much padding. It could be more comfortable if you ask me. The top phone pocket opening it small. Phones have gotten pretty big and with a case on you have to really work it in the pocket. The top handle is the best I've use. It has a thick gel padding. The interior room is going to be plenty on the travel pack. On the backpack you have pockets and an organizer. On the backpack I can fit a jacket inside or a pair of pants and shirt. This is with my laptop in the pocket and my standard chargers cables etc for work. It holds its shape even when empty. So if you get the bigger styles it always looks like you have a bigger rectangle on your back. It's a trade off because the shape means the backpack stands up when set down. It opens nicely when set on a desk for example, doesn't fall over. It looks professional.

returns are free.

Is this Ok as a personal item? Basically can it be pushed under the seats on a plane? The expanded version seems like it's too thick
I used it as a personal item on international flights and domestic Us. No issues.

Nomatic has free returns and a lifetime warranty. I already have the backpack from the last Costco next deal and I asked for a return. They instantly send you a return label. Then I decided to keep it anyway.

This is helpful. Thanks. I read the water issues on reddit and this review https://packhacker.com/travel-gea...ravel-bag/
Ah, that's the older version of the bag. The travel pack came out in 2019 and I jumped on it then. Unfortunately I paid much more than this 😔. Someone else above linked the correct pack hacker review and it lines up with my experience.

Like I said, I love it but the wife doesn't care for it due to the weight so she went with an osprey bag. Hers is just for occasional travel so she was willing to sacrifice the water resistance. But the osprey is feather light....only a few ounces empty. I was caught in a rainstorm in Barcelona on a work trip and vowed to never get caught that way again. It is the most expensive piece of luggage I've ever bought and its been worth it.

I bought the carryon last year. I love the internal compression and overall quality but the outside scratches super easily. I baby my gear and after 2 trips, the carryon looked like it just survived WWIII. I do still recommend but just be aware that it will scratch up and have that "used"look extremely fast.

Do you have the 14L or the 20L? Based on your comment jt sounds like it may be the 20L but just want to be sure. About to order one based on your positive feedback Smilie

Anybody have an experience with the 20L vs the 40L? You can carry on both sizes?
