Had one, buying another because some POS found mine and kept it. Don't be a POS... return a range finder, or anything you find on a golf course for that matter that isn't yours. Don't be a POS. On another note, I love this rangefinder and this is a good price.

Not quite sure…so I shouldn't be a POS?

For a beginner, what's the cost benefit of this rangefinder compared to the $50 options advertised during Black Friday? Assuming I know how far I hit each club on average, does the slope/elevation adjustment make a major difference as a feature compared to versions without such precision?

I would get slope. Depends on how hilly the courses you play are. I would rather have and not use it than to need it and not have it. In regard to the 50 dollar one, don't get those. They are super cheap, shoot the pin 3 times and get 3 very different yardages. This one is good, (my buddy has it) but I found it to be a little bit more inconsistent than my bushnell, but that is much more expensive. This is a great rangefinder for the price. Keep in mind it's a licensed product and not made by callaway but still a great product.

I've used range finders in all different price points. The main difference I've found is that the more expensive ones like Bushnell will lock in on your target on your first try and give you the correct distance. The cheaper ones have a harder time locking in to the pin especially if you're further away so you'll get the distance for the tree that's 100 yards behind the pin. So you'll have to shoot it several times to get the correct distance. Not a huge deal but that's the main difference.

I bought this unit when it was $120. Biggest difference I noticed compared to my Bushnell was that it struggles to get the distance in foggy conditions

So curious if this was a local course! Fellow Pittsburgher here.
