I think Lego's are Lego's. For $20, it's a great cheap gifts for kids whom like Lego or Mario in general.

Oof, I paid $52 for this from lego.com in July and thought I was getting a good deal. I should get another one to flip-rus it later. =P

But I am glad I checked out this thread, since the sale for 71422 is one I was looking for (and it just came out in August). Thanks @myopinion77 for pointing that out!

Update... no longer available for shipping (as of the last ten minutes or so). I will be getting it (and 71422) with local pickup. This has a bunch of nice transparent elements, so for $20 it makes for a good parts pack.

You need one of the starter courses like Adventures with Mario Starter Course 71360 (~$50). There are starter courses with Luigi or Peach as well. It's unfortunate that the main characters only come in these battery powered bulky figures, but it's to play their "game". All other sets are considered expansion sets because you need a starter set to play the game (eg. baddies have QR codes and Mario 'jumps' on them to get coins). The game gets old very fast so don't buy many of these sets unless you can find them for a good deal since they are very overpriced to begin with imo. Also unlike other sets, Mario sets currently do not come with paper instructions and encourages you to use an ipad for building instructions. Some people don't mind, but I like to do legos to keep off of screen time.

Wow, Best Buy absolutely sucks. Past Lego deals this year (store pickup), my boxes were very damaged. I don't care much about box condition, but these were really, really damaged. Order before last, my Lego set was supposed to ship but instead they had "Roadie" pick it up from the store and the person left it far away from my house, leaning against my mailbox on a busy highway. My mailbox is at the end of my road.
For this order, again I chose shipping and, again, they had Roadie pick it up. Well, the person picked up this Lego set and another Mario one... and they never delivered them. They picked them up on 12/14. Hope that Roadie person likes my Lego sets they stole. What a joke.
