The strainer on this leaves a bunch of coffee grinds at the bottom.

For pour over, i recommend just coffee filters 4 and any pour over coffee maker. I like the OXO pour over as it doesn't stain, at least not yet, with over 1 year of daily use.

The strainer on this supports a paper filter and creates airspace between the filter and glass that helps it flow better. It works very well when used with a cheap #4 filter.

Not better at all in my opinion, but it's totally subjective. You'd have to get both and try them.

The Aeropress guy is very weird, which I respect. He likes to brew coffee at unusually low temperatures. He recommends about 175 while most other people are targeting 195-205.

It worth a shot to see if you agree with him.

The strainer on this leaves a bunch of coffee grinds at the bottom.

For pour over, i recommend just coffee filters 4 and any pour over coffee maker. I like the OXO pour over as it doesn't stain, at least not yet, with over 1 year of daily use.

I own what I think might be a previous version of this? I enjoy it quite a bit. I actually don't mind the filter since if I do pour over I'm always doing paper or cloth. With cloth, I can use it by itself, but paper I put it on top of the metal one.

I say the previous version because the pictures show two filters. The one that looks like way more metal, and the video which shows the filter mine came with, which has more plastic. I also find the filter useful for filtering other things such as cocktails that I infuse and such. If the filter on this is the one with much more metal, I hope it would be even finer, but maybe not.

As a vessel I also enjoy it. It's the poor man's chemex. Hard to clean if you don't own a bottle brush. However, I do wish I waited on a deal to buy the double walled version. This can cool down quickly if there isn't enough volume to hold heat.

Overall, I enjoy it. Got it on a deal like this four years ago I think for 13? But wish I would have waited for the double wall version.

I'd recommend paper filters. The metal coffee filters absorb smells and oils that are hard to get out even in the dishwasher. I messed up and had it next to a stove once and the smell of burned oil never came out.

I had a slightly different version of this. It's really fine with just the metal filter. Any little pieces of coffee that go through collect in the roundness of the bottom and not in your cup. Also paper collects too much of the oils that should be in your coffee and not on the paper you throw out.

You can do pour over in aeropress. Just grind coarsely and don't use the plunger. It will act as pour over

Try boiling it in a pot with vinegar. It works when deglazing and cleaning stainless cookwear.

Yes, 4 as they are available in bulk at Sam's Club or Costco Business center for super cheap. I don't mind it being slightly bigger but 2 would be ideal.

Had the smaller one of these I used for almost 10 years until it broke in the most anticlimactic way ever. Just lightly bumped it and it slowly rolled on its side... and shattered! It really was a super mild, I wonder if it was from years of being heated and cooled. Anyway, got this size about two months ago because it was the same price as the smaller one. They have updated the metal filter and I notice it has much less water flow(the smaller one didn't fit this size). Less grinds if you don't use a filter (I still use a filter because there's usually a bit of the thick muddiness at the bottom) but when I used a finer grind it would sometimes take so long it wasn't hot enough by the time it reached by cup. Solved this by doing a grind on the higher end of medium.

i use a v60 permanent filter and no matter how much i alter the variables i am unable to achieve anywhere near an acceptable draw time because it flows through the metal filter differently than paper
