That is true. A pro tip is also to buy the most expensive game first, and work your way down. Since that will give you the most gold coins. Meaning the most free games.
I think you can min-max this by buying all the games for $0.29 and under then using your gold coins on the last two $0.30 games (paying an additional $0.08 to complete the last game). Total for 40 games (excluding Don't Be Afraid) should be $5.24 (with one gold coin remaining) if done correctly, assuming you didn't have any games to start and had to purchase The Great Perhaps as your first game for $1.99 (DO NOT get Super Cyborg as your first game for maximum coinage).
Note: if you do plan on buying all of them, I strongly suggest you purchase a single $5 eShop card on your credit card/PayPal than to make 40 individual few cent transactions. Your CC company could potentially freeze your card if it believes these are some sort of scam transactions.

I just bought on of the game on the game on sale for 1.99 and then after that it discounted all the games for as per original post. I was als9 able to get Great Perhaps for 30 cents. basically everything discounted to 90-99%.
I bought all games to try with kids. around 40 games for around $5 bucks. . I am hoping 10 of these games will be worth playing few times. Not bad.
if you are fence, I would suggest go ahead. for $5 you will get decent library of small easy games to play few times. Compared to that I paid $55 just for 1 Mario wonder games. Agreed class is day and night different 😀.
I have no idea if any of these are worth playing, can someone post the metacritic scores on these
