I'm assuming "refurb" doesn't mean new batteries…

At least with Apple refurbs, you get a new battery. My wife has a Best Buy "geek squad" refurb Apple Watch and it dies before lunch. 80% battery health.

I received this today (Sunday around noon) in Seattle, WA, purchased Friday morning at 8am. Roughly 48 hours from purchase to wearing it - that was super fast shipping! I bought the "certified refurbished" model for $479, it arrived flawless, looks brand new. Battery Health is at 100%, so this really is a slick deal! No regrets here, I'm stoked!!

My personal experiences from A4C, I have ordered from them several times over the years. Their certified refurbished always used to look brand new, aka store returns.

But the last two orders that I made in the past month, both came very much scuffed up and very much "used". I was very much disappointed and initiated a return on one of the order. The customer service was very friendly and didn't make any fuss about processing the return and sent me a return label right away.

My recent order also came a bit scuffed up. I am a bit hesitant initiate another return in a month.

Edit: I ordered both apple (3 iPads and one iPad keyboard) and non-apple (Sony, Anker) products from them

The ultra uses the same processor as the Series 8 and the series 9 (ultra 2) processor seriously has proven to be hyped up more so than functional.

It's a minimal incremental update by Apple at best. They just marketed it like it was incredible with the separate cores for offline Siri. The double tap works on all Apple Watches in accessibility settings.

You are delusional if you think gen 2 is worth it over gen 1 at this price. Gen 3 will likely be a huge update with Apple Watch Series X coming up next. (Apple always goes hard with X product releases.)
So save for ultra 3 or buy this refurb ultra 1?

I put glass hardened screen protectors on my devices and they are undetectable. Not sure what the hell you are using or how you are putting them on. Screen protectors don't mean visually compromised experience.
I don't. Again, we were talking about a case that wraps around the watch. Reading comprehension

What it shows under the warranty on the iphone? I bought one from them last year and it still had 10 months left

Buddy just got his ocean band watch with AppleCare through 12/13/24. Guess it's random.

nope. the rate of improvement on watches has slowed dramatically. there's very little new features from ultra 1 to ultra 2. same with 8 and series 9
Yep… Just because you keep your shit forever, most don't. For example I work in technology, 26 years now, I get new iPhone and watch every year.

There is only so much a watch can do. And currently they do quite a bit. If Apple doesn't support these with software for 5 years minimum I'd eat my own shoe. If they are supporting any watch it's going to be their flagship. And considering they are STILL supporting the Series 4 with updates, I think the software will remain stable and updated.
You will easily have 5 years of updates on these, maybe even more.

I've had my Series 4 and it is still working decently. Battery needs to be charged in the evening, but I haven't seen any compelling reasons to upgrade yet. The Ultra 1 at this price is nice but will it actually improve my life in any meaningful way? I wish I could tell...

I've been debating between the battery replacement for awhile now, but at this point I can wait another 9 months to see the 10th anniversary edition of the Apple Watch. Rumors are pointing that it's a radical redesign and the current straps won't be compatible.
Short answer is yes, big time. Long answer, is the screen, sensor suite and processing on these devices has expanded and improved dramatically since the series 4. A series 4 to this Ultra 1 would be a massive update. If you just look at the time on your device, then keep the 4 if the battery is good enough for you.

With the plethora of third party straps available, I'd actually stick to something like this watch at least for the first gen or two. And let's be honest, rumors are just that.
Apple rumors are an industry unto themselves. The M4 chip I hear is 10X faster with longer battery life. Hold out!!!

The only use case for the Ultra is the action button... that you can program to run anything, including shortcuts.
You couldn't be more wrong. Series 4 sensors are trash. No fall protection, no Blood O2, no crash protection and by now, a terrible battery. Ultra 1 is a MASSIVE upgrade from a 4.
