I wonder what's going on here. We have seen special EDU pricing on the a7R V several times this year and it keeps getting cheaper. Is Sony trying to tell us something about their next gen of cameras and trying to make a push to sell as many of these as possible?

Maybe they think most pros are going to go for the A9iii with the global shutter?? Don't know though, this did a fantastic deal

If the a7r v sells for $3800, I would rather go with the nikon z8, it's getting camera of the year prize everywhere, I think this is why Sony is willing to give discount for the a7r v because they could recycle the old 60mp sensor from the a7r iv, so it doesn't cost them that much to sell at discounted priced, just a bummer for who paid full price for it.

Because the Sony BF prices are really underwhelming. So now their sale figures are trending below expectations, and they have to cut prices further. They should have done it earlier in the first place. This is only just a fair price when you consider that you can get A7R4 with the same sensor for $2.5k or less a couple of years ago.

FF 24-42MP camera with Good AF start at $1200 (R8/R6, Z7,A7R3/R4)
Old cam starts at $800 (A7R2)

This is why I tell people it's silly to disparage competing products or brands. Competition drives prices lower and puts more pressure on manufacturers to innovate. Great price. TU
