There is a lot of misinformation on this product. Let me clarify..
1. The actual lock communicates with the bridge via BLE (Bluetooth) and its the bridge which conncts to your router via WiFi. Since the bridge is plugged-in, there is no issue about the bridge "draining power".
2. The advantage of the lock with BLE is that once your iPhone is in close proximity to the lock, it connects via Bluetooth - so, if you ever lose your WiFi or electricity, you can always unlock/lock with your iphone.
3. It is critical to make sure that your deadbolt locks smoothly (ie the door is very well aligned). This is where the battery drain issues occur. If the motor has to work hard to move the deadbolt or it is stuck against the strike plate, you WILLdrain battery fast. Make sure that your door is perfectly aligned all the time, closes completely, and the lock can move in-out freely and that you regularly lubricate the mechanics of the deadbolt (Do NOT use WD-40, but a gel type log acting lubricant).
4. The lock works with Alexa and can be locked or even unlocked by Alexa (need a code for unlock). No connection to RING.
5. The lock does have geofencing for those interested. It unocks as you come near.
6. The lock can be set to automatically lock after X minutes, so that you can unlock, close the door and walk away.
7. You can share access to the lock via app
8. Yes, you can use your apple watch to lock/unlock
9. A t this price it is a great deal (if your door closes perfectly all the time)
I have this for the past 3+ years and no issues. The big round knob is bit strange and looks funny.
I have had an august smart lock for 3 years. Main benefits
- The app can be set to away mode, which means when you leave your area (1 mile from your home) and come to the front door, the bluetooth will detect you're there and auto unlock the door. It doesn't sound like much, but honestly it's something I am so used to at this point that I cannot see myself going back.
- The connect is to allow you to access to the lock outside the home, this isn't needed if you have an Apple TV as you can just connect it to Apple Home.
- August has it's own app, it doesnt connect directly with other apps like Ring for example, but nothing is stopping you from unlocking remotely.
- You can add guests will time limits to the lock, but away mode only works for owners
OP you may wanna clarify this is 3rd Gen, which requires connect to remote lock and unlock (Unless you have apple home setup with an Apple TV)

For those with battery issues, any that I had were solved by using the connect. Been on the same batteries for the last 7 months since starting to use it.
I got August Smart Lock Pro + Connect + Keypad for 30% off ($182) in April. This is a great price!
- 4 x AA Duracell Powerboost lasts ~4 months, but the app will warn you before it runs out.
- There is a ~2 second lag for the Keypad to open the lock. You'll get used to it.
- Love the auto-locking feature. The sensor detects when the door is ajar.
- Geofencing doesn't work well if you live in an apartment. It auto-unlocks while I wait for the elevator since the GPS thinks I'm in front of my door.

I wouldn't recommend this lock, although I haven't had many issues with it. But I bought other smart locks for half the price of these, and they work much much better, with an integrated keypad, better design, fingerprint reader, USB power option when batteries are dead, door sensor that tells you if door is closed properly, and the list goes on.
August has NONE of these convenient features. It's just an overpriced deadbolt which is an eyesore and really hard to turn if you have arthritis, and the keypad is crap. THe batteries do drain fast if your door's strike plate doesn't align properly with the deadbolt, so when it tries to extend to enter the center of the strike plate and fails to extend fully, the electronics will keep trying to push hard constantly, eventually draining your batteries.
It's a retrofit so it connects to the same old locking mechanism as your current deadbolt. The only thing you're changing is the inside knob. The inside portion doesn't need to be drilled thru the door. It does use a very strong adhesive to stay on. I placed mine a bit off-center and I just have to live with it. You still can use the same key that you normally use to open the deadbolt cuz that part didn't change. I'm not a very handy person at all and I thought this was very easy to install.
I've had one of these since they came out and have nothing but good things to say about it.
Very reliable, amount of times it didn't auto-unlock is probably 1%. iPhone user here, I hear it's worse for Android.
Battery lasts 8-10 months.
Locks automatically with door sense and that never failed.
It's not a pretty thing, the new one is better visually but that one has WiFi in it and uses battery much faster. I'm not too concerned about looks.
Some visitors are not smart enough to figure out how to unlock it when leaving. Doesn't happen often but occasionally I have to help. It's a way to find out who your dumber friends are.
I do not have the keypad. Thought about getting one if the phone auto-unlock wasn't reliable but it is so it would be rarely used.
I have this for over three years. Batteries last for an year. Remote locking/unlocking works well. I don't use auto locking, always lock from app by two clicks when we go outside.

Okay so which lock has all those features and is half the price of this August?
Yes, works fine. The biggest issue was to get the door too close without interference, had to adjust the lock and file the latch side for perfect alignment. Once aligned well, you get seriously good battery life. Had to notch the wood trim off the main door a bit so the circular August unit closes. Then paint, so you need to be a bit handy, but so worth it. Been a pleasure, so darn convenient passing out keys to my kids, away mode, remote unlock. Been using this pre covid, trying to figure out if worth it to replace my original august or not.
3 plus years august user here. The bridge keeps losing WiFi connection and reconnecting. It does this over a dozen times everyday. Super annoying. Called customer service. No help. Worst support. Don't recommend.
Same issue here. I have 4 of them on 4 doors. I have not seen any firmware updates to address ANYTHING. They sell it and forget it. Awful company that doesn't support their product.

Most won't care because away mode works way better than passcode or biometric.
As for alignment, you'll have to do that with any lock system for reliability. If you don't have good alignment, this system will turn into a nightmare, or as bad as a biometric lock…..
Any lock system that requires physically touching to operate will be inferior, far inferior. When I'm away from home and the cleaners are there early, remote open or they can had digital keys for their schedule dates/times. Auto lock after 3 minutes is great because kids are unreliable at locking doors. Battery life is decent, and all of this works well with a single stipulation…. You have good for alignment and can figure that out, but if you can't put a bumper on your triming, adjust your doorknob, move your strike plate, then you'll have a terrible experience.

Thanks for this. So no issue with clearance between the security screen and the regular wood door....this doesn't use anything large on the backside, correct?
I have this for 2+ years and am happy. The app sends a notification when battery is low (4 AA battery) Regular alkaline battery may only last 1-2 months based on usage. Rechargeable batteries may not work well if voltage is too low. I use ghetto ravovac 15 min rechargeable batteries but must charge them about every 10 days. I work at home so it is not a chore. Ideally lithium AA would be the ideal battery.

I googled for the R10 but it seems to be replaced by this version now: https://us.eufy.com/products/t850...2PEALw_w

Would avoid if you have double doors
