0w-16 is such a random newer weight, it always makes me double take…I do wonder if it'd be ok in a 0w-20 application, they're so close.

0w-16 is the "7 minute abs" of the oil world.

What if someone comes up with 0w-15?!

Scotty Kilmer is the click bait king of YouTube. Watch the entire 10 minute video., you get maybe 30 seconds of what is said in the title. The rest is just fillers of unrelated topics. I stopped watching him a long time ago.

0w-16 is fine when used in applications that spec it. All comes down to things like bearing clearances so not something you would generally want to back spec on older vehicles. Ultimately it comes down to reducing losses by using lower viscosity lubricants, as every tenth of a point of MPG matters when it comes to CAFE standards. Some vehicles could benefit from heavier weights of oil particularly during the summer months, and you'll notice that USA manuals won't generally recommend alternative weights any more…yet some other countries you'll still see temperature ranges for each oil weight based on temperature…as it should be. One size fits all doesn't really work US48, let alone across all 50 states.

The store just called to say that they don't have any "in stock" and canceled my order. I just have a feeling that they're lying. I'm tempted to call their bluff by going there to see if there are any on the shelves.

Well, the new Toyota Crown uses 0W-8 oil lmao

By this logic, the next step would be 0W-4 weight oil
Imagine once we get down to the real hair-splitting... 0W-3/32, 0W-1/64

Got 6 quarts for $12. Nice. Needed the 10W30 for my little high mileage beater.

not true
Actually this is true in most cases and better in higher stress use cases (trucks, towing, etc.) since you're relying less upon viscosity modifiers.

RE 0w-16. No date, but there is something printed on the bottle. I can't really make it out. I will note, the bottles were very dusty and the sticker labels were curling and slightly peeling off. No doubt this stock is old. Been sitting around for awhile. And for reference, I ordered 6 online. The store called and said they only have 5. I said I'd still take the order. When I got to the store, they refunded me for one bottle.
