For those of you that subscribed to Netflix through Verizon last year on that cheap one year deal, and cancelled through Verizon, check your credit card bill.

I found out today that I was charged for their Ultra $22.99 plan starting today for this month, even though I cancelled about 10 days prior to my one year expiration through Verizon. And it showed cancelled and not subscribed to Netflix even today on Verizon, it only showed currently subscribed to Netflix on my Netflix account details; this what it showed.

Your membership was included with Verizon between 12/15/22 and 12/15/23. Contact Verizon for billing details.

So, yes, that is what I did. And Verizon did indeed show I cancelled my Netflix subscription through them and did not resub scribe or show a current subscription.

This is the charge that appeared today on my Netflix account, now supposedly managed through Netflix.

See? This is the gotcha. They tell me prior to today that I am subscribed through Verizon and have to manage my account through Verizon. I did, and through Verizon my Netflix is cancelled.

Starting today though, they say since I used my normal Netflix account and didn't start a new account through Verizon they charged me on "auto backup pay". I asked how they could do that when my Netflix account was inactive prior to my Verizon signup, I had cancelled prior to my term expiration on my Verizon sign up, and I did not subscribe or authorize to subscribe to Netflix through Netflix. They said to keep my service uninterrupted. A service both Verizon AND Netflix can see I cancelled.

Yep. You had to manage your Netflix account through Verizon, not possible through Netflix, you do, then Netflix charges you after your cancellation through Verizon, and you can only see that and manage that after the fact, not prior. So they get you for a month, you did not authorize, and how many people catch it even then?

Check your credit cards.

"Okay. I see that you've started this account with a different payment method and changed to Verizon, the old payment method was set as a backup and once you've cancelled your subscription with them, the back one is charged to uninterrupt the streaming."

"But why is that? When I would access my account, they said that I would have to manage my account through Verizon; which is what I did. So why does it re sign me up through Netflix, when it is obvious I cancelled the service and did not re up? My service through Netflix was inactive, prior to signing up through Verizon, and cancelled through Verizon prior to the one year expiration date. Who authorized a subscription to Netflix through Netflix after my cancellation?"

I did eventually get a refund, but I never should have been charged in the first place. Deceptive business practice.

Use gift cards for these kind of things. When they go to charge u it won't go through.

Or virtual credit cards (free from service like privacy .com)
Set your limit and they'll deny all unauthorized charges. I did a fubo trial and forgot about it until privacy sent me 'denied $1xx.00 from fubo' emails every 5-7 days for a month before fubo auto cancelled. Very convenient for free trials and deals with limited time price. They'll deny the charges when a price increase happens and you'll have time to cancel or just let the biller cancel.

They still charged my gift card $23 as opposed to the normal monthly rate.

My account says "pending cancellation." I'm looking back through the billing on Verizon +play, the first bill was for service 11/15/22-12/15/22 for $0. I have a new bill on 12/15/23 for $0 for service through 1/15/24. It's odd because that is 14 months and I haven't been charged. My Netflix account still says to manage it through Verizon. Happy to have extra months free, but now I can't sign up for the latest offer.... Very strange.

In the same situation here. Very kludgey. May attempt Verizon CS again because the term of the Netflix subscription is clearly elapsed and I'd like control back

Didn't you all get several emails from Verizon that your Netflix +play sub was about to expire? I did. Luckily I cancelled a couple days before it ended. Then on the day it ended Netflix emailed me that I was about to be charged the premium rate unless I made changes to the account. I switched to the lower tier and later that day got the invoice for the lower tier price. It all worked out 👍🏼

Don't you think you're going to get charged on the 25th then? Guess I'm not understanding. Most of us all canceled through Verizon, and show canceled through Verizon, but it seems like if Netflix has an old credit card on file, they're going to sign you up through them regardless. You're right though, you won't have access to Netflix until after they do that to you, that is the issue...other than the shady practice of signing you up when you have already canceled. Good luck.
I was lucky and did not have a credit card on file with Netflix. After my verizon netflix deal was expired, I received an email that my Netflix was paused until I could add a credit card. I was able to get into my Netflix account to cancel, though.

I had set a reminder in my phone for when this was set to expire. The day it expired I cancelled on Verizon and then cancelled on Netflix. It was pretty straightforward. Once that was done I purchased another year of Netflix and Paramount+ for $130 on the Verizon play store. Everything was seamless and I am now getting both services for roughly $10/month. I set another reminder for next year.

You bet. I probably would not have noticed the charge on my account until my statement, because I checked a week ago, and in my mind, and what it showed on Verizon, was this was taken care of. My mom told me she was watching something on Netflix, and that is what made me check, because I knew my subscription ended the day before. They definitely would have nailed me for one month of their highest priced plan. I will use a virtual card from now on when signing up for these things...if I do.
This was totally a setup on their end to stick you with a month. Making a new account without any method of payment on the netflix side is the way to avoid them doing this to you in the future.
