My parents owned a carry out ( ie restaurant where you buy and leave , no seating ) and so I grew up around griddles.

It's just my opinion that all kitchens should be equipped with griddles , and then maybe one or two burners for liquid boiling.

Things griddles do better:

- overall speed of cooking
- cooking more food
- much less messy , both while cooking and less dishes
- better heat management via zones
- surface lasts a lifetime
- easier to clean , faster to clean
- more versatile

Things burners do better :
- boil liquid
- cooking meals for a single person a handful of times a week

Once you get a griddle ( which is not that hard) .. you'll wonder why these aren't the default cooking surfaces for everyone. You can cook up a four course breakfast for 8 people in 10 minutes, and clean the whole thing grease and all in less than 30 seconds. Just pour water into the hot surface , swipe with your griddle knife thingy and good to go.
I have only owned a grill forever. I downsized to a Weber spirit 2 burner that has about the same cooking surface area as a Blackstone 22". In the winter, my grill gets little use but a " portable" Blackstone is tempting as I can store it in the garage and set it up quickly just outside my garage even in the winter months.

Two of my neighbors got Blackstones last year and swear by it, they barely use their grill now. They say burgers are amazing.

My kids love smashburgers from Culver's. My family loves breakfast on a griddle (bacon, pancakes, French toast, eggs). These are all things I can sort of do on an old electric griddle indoors but it makes a mess and isn't ideal for everything.

Also been wanting to do hibachi, yakisoba and more griddle cooking.

While I could add a cast iron griddle to to my Weber, I like the idea of a separate Blackstone type griddle with a convenient grease collection system that doesn't drip into the burner area. Also with it being portable, I can use it anywhere and foresee getting more use out of it especially in the winter months.
you can make a ton of things on a blackstone

Can this be connected to natural gas? Thanks
Yes, they sell a conversion kit [blackstoneproducts.com]

Pay attention to the note on the page, however:
Quote :
This kit is designed to be used with natural gas at 7 inches of water column. Verify your natural gas pressure with your local gas company and with your regulator manufacturer before installing this product.

Yeah, but how do steaks turn out on these?

Serious question as I've been looking at these as a replacement grill for my RV and curious how steaks turn out. Obviously, you don't get the grill marks, but that is just for aesthetics but do these get hot enough to sear the meat?
The when I tested mine the surface of the griddle would get up to 400 degrees F

The best steakhouses use griddles. Sear them HOT and get that crust on the outside. THIS is the best way to cook a steak or burger. Heading to Costco today to grab the family a camping gift for Xmas 🤙🤙

Have you always heated it up quickly on high?
Have you always jumped to conclusions? I don't use high. If you look at the burner, the flame is strong even on the low setting and close to the plate as it is. Is your griddle top perfectly flat still? Is anyones?

That comment was not a conclusion, it was a question. You keep practicing in these social discussions, and you will eventually get the hang of it.

It has a lot of BTU and could be too hot for steaks if you leave it long enough. Also due to the heat retention of all that steel it will transfer more heat to your steaks than a grill.

I would get this one though instead. It's what I have and can be used on a table as well.

Well, I answered your question. In the same manner I was asked. Did you answer my questions? In any case, just warning everyone this griddle is 0.10" thick and mine is warped. Trying to help you consumers with straight facts. and I realize now. Its not worth the criticism next time I want to share my experience.

It's not electric...

Why do people jump in these threads just to make an ass of themselves? Rice cooker deal posts are another.
Is this the camping mini-propane tank version? That makes it an even worse deal...smh...You can buy a commercial version, propane or electric cheaper than the blackstone crap on amazon all day. Blackstone grill people are like Dyson vacuum, Bose speaker, and Apple cultists.

Try to cook an entire stir fry on your $10 skillet. How does 8 smashburgers work on your tiny skillet in the kitchen getting grease everywhere?
OOOOH, you said smashburgers, you must be a zoomer, lol...Who cooks 8 burgers at a time outside of a restaurant? A: Nobody...And, yes, I can cook 16 of them on a 1970's electric skillet without getting "GrEaSe" everywhere...

The nexgrill has a cast iron enameled top, so it doesn't have to be seasoned like an uncoated Blackstone top.

However, I don't know how well the enamel coating will hold up over time to metal utensils (spatulas, scrapers) so if the coating starts to chip or come off, then the top is done for.

This is why I went the Blackstone route
This is also why I opted for the Blackstone. Enamel simply doesn't hold up.
