How is this vs some of the other more known brands? A discount of $700 is not confidence building for me

FWIW I could not find this brand on the Energy Star website (even though it says it's certified).

You can also get a J+ Booster EVSE refurbished from the company on eBay for $330.

314.99 on Amazon. Reviews there are for a jumpstarter. It may work well but too many unknowns.

If they're advertising a 14-50 plug and a 50A circuit, this thing will only ever deliver 40A to the car. 48A should not be used on a 50A circuit. Buyer beware...

$314 on Amazon, but you get a "free" tesla adaptor. " So basically, it's the same price

If I were to get this but use a 10-30 male to 14-50 female adapter, will it work? Or is it not safe considering the difference in power draw. I'm thinking the adapter would throttle the power output to match the 10-30 level?

Can you explain this to a layman like myself? What exactly do you mean?

Pulling 48A on a 50A Circuit/Breaker is pushing the limit and asking for your breaker to trip. If you want a true 50A charger then get a 60A Circuit/Breaker installed with the necessary wiring size.

I'm not saying he is correct or wrong, but I think he's correct. If you install a 50 amp breaker, then you MUST have a minimum size wire to safely coincide with that breaker to deliver the amperage. I think to deliver 48 amps, you need a 60 amp breaker and "maybe" #4 wire. So I think with a 50 amp breaker, your max would charging delivery would be closer to 40 amps, not 48. Of course with a 50 amp breaker, the wire is slightly smaller than with a 60 amp breaker. Maybe #6? Maybe 8? Check with someone who knows for sure. But that's probably what he meant.

Rule of thumb is 80% of breaker amp, so 50A breaker suppose not go over 40A, 60A breaker suppose not go over 48A usage, also 48A normally hardwired instead of plug in to outlet.
