Not a deal but a cool new product and would make great gifts. I'm not sure if there are any coupons going on right now. However, as the wise latin gas station sage told Sarah Connor at the end of Terminator 1...."storm's coming"

The best survival kit is the one you have on you in a survival situation. Which is why you don't want to bother with a bunch of useless bric a brac that'll make you less likely to carry it around in the first place. A 7-in-1 survival spork, tactical pen, 'sabre card' and waterbottle clip are ridiculous. They're included for people who would rather indulge a fantasy than actually prepare for a real world survival situation, like getting lost on a hike.

You want a functional survival kit? Buy these items separately or find a serious kit that includes them:
  • A fixed blade, full-tang (blade material extends all the way through the handle) knife. It doesn't have to be a Rambo-sized blade, just something sturdy, sharp and that holds its edge. Make sure it comes with a functional sheath.
  • A ferrocerium rod and scraper, but also a Bic lighter and waterproof matches.
  • A bit of tinder (commercial products are an option but a small zip loc baggy with cotton balls impregnated with a very little bit of petroleum jelly work just as well, if not better)
  • Some cordage. Doesn't have to be mil-spec paracord, just something light but reasonably strong for shelter building and/or gear and clothing repair.
  • A decent compass. Doesn't have to be fancy, but something better than those notoriously unreliable, hard-to-get-an-accurate-bearing button compasses.
  • A water bottle or other means of storing/carrying water. (the fact that the above referenced HF kit comes with a water bottle clip, but not the water bottle itself, should tell you all you need to know about its legitimacy)
  • Water purification tablets and/or personal water filter (e.g. LifeStraw, Sawyer Mini or similar)
  • Duct tape
  • Reflective mylar emergency blanket
  • A bit of food. Sure, you can survive for quite a while without it, but if you're 18 hours into a survival situation, scared, hungry and getting a little lightheaded when you really need to keep your wits about you, you'll be thankful for those two Clif bars or bag of trail mix that you included in lieu of that survival spork and tactical pen.
  • A flashlight. Or better yet, a headlamp. Plus spare batteries.
  • A small first aid kit.

You might right a little bit. They have been stepped up their quality and options so much lately after all the Sears Stores were closed.
Many of their tools are manufactured by the same companies. . .sold in big boxes stores, tools trucks

Why? They don't manufacture it-they buy from the same guys that sell to premium brands. Unless it plugs into the wall, it's safe to buy from Harbor Freight.
Really give us an example. I own tons of HF tools but i know what i am getting. I bought a timing light this summer and they specified there were no returns on that item...Doa, waste of money

Even cheaper: find a crazy end of the world conspiracy nut as a neighbor and let them do all the stocking up for the off chance its ever needed.

The same one on Amazon is cheaper, just search for a survival kit.

Maybe cheaper than buying all this cheap crap separately. Maybe. I suppose it's better than nothing in an emergency, but definitely not something I'd choose to depend on.

Harbor freight sells one of the most useful items in any store for a true SHTF scenario

This is all cheap crap you can buy from Temu , SHEIN or Aliexpress for 50 cent to a dollar each . I built my own survival pack for under 25$ , direct from China 😆

Simple rule for fire starting or any survival gear. 1 is none and 3 is one. Essentially have a lighter, matches, ferro rod at the least. If one fails you have options. This is all garbage. Better to buy high quality gear in the event your life depends on it.

Really bad advice, bic lighters are prone to failure, leaks and don't work when wet! A good ferro rod with magnesium bar will get a fire started in the wettest conditions. magnesium shavings spark easily and burn hot enough to dry out then ignite whatever main fuel you are using! Matches are ok but I have used an enite book of matches to get one cigarette lit back when I used to smoke. Nothing beats a ferro rod with magnesium bar for an emergency fire starting kit!
Flint and tinder needs char cloth, fire pistons also need good dry char cloth, lighters fail, cotton balls covered with vaseline work well but take up a lot of space and you can only carry so many. Boe drills need very dry base to work, nope ferro rod 100%
That was a very excited post. Or maybe it was just very windy.

"Flint" fire starters always crack me up. They are fun to play with yes, but in any REAL potential survival situation, just carry a few extra bic (or mini bic) lighters, and/or matches. If the knife is of decent quality this isn't a bad set to add stuff to.
Exactly bic lighter is obviously superior way to start a fire just place it in a ziploc bag
