Yup. I have a few aqara devices that claim to need the hub but seem to work with any zigbee hub. I'm using ST currently.
Can you schedule a time where this won't turn the lights on, i.e 10-5am?
With home assistant yes, I'm not familiar enough with other systems to answer for those.

You can do anything using conditions with hubitat, which is the platform I am using. Other platforms could do the same.
You can use energy or vibration monitors on a clothes dryer to trigger if it is completed or not.
Example of what I use for habitat for monitoring laundry https://community.hubit
And https://www.getzooz.com/zooz-zen15-power-switch/ which I can use because I have a gas dryer and not a 240v dryer.
But there is also https://community.hubit
You still need a hub like a HUSBZB-1 USB stick or another type of Zigbee hub. It doesn't just work without any type of hub.
