They've been emailing out free stuff coupons for at least the last 5 years if you get on their mailing list. There's no garantee of it, but it comes almost monthly or every other month, sometimes 2 will come in back-to-back weeks. I currently have 2 overlapping coupons (expires 12/31 and 1/7). Yes that's true I have gotten bunch of feee stuff via these offers, pi zero, sd cards, usb flash drives etc.

The write performance is pretty terrible on these. It's good enough, but also annoyingly slow.

I had a microcenter USB drive fail on me shockingly quick. This was years ago but I wouldn't make a special trip for anything MC branded. You get what you pay for.

they started used differnt supplier you can tell if there is a black plastic stick inside than its the new one and its slow , otherwise you should see the chip and it will be good at least thats for ther 64 gb one

Exactly. The problem is good drives aren't that expensive, and what do you use a flash drive for that you don't mind a failure? In every case, it's worth it for me to buy a more reliable one than potentially waste time troubleshooting and replacing a free flash drive.
