so you vouch for the Costco bench, stand, and headphones? i keep hearing they are crap, but maybe that's specific to the other bundles you see on Amazon and Adorama
The bench is pretty nice. Well built and has room for books under the seat. The stand isn't bad. There are nicer ones available but it works and seems solid. I haven't tried the headphones yet.

Just bought the costco one for 499. I believe the sale is until the 24th so if you have a warehouse close by I would pick up in store to avoid shipping charges. In terms of accessories, the bench is actually pretty solid as mentioned before and all the accessories blends and looks nice with the piano itself

so in layman terms - it simulates sounds of other pianos?
Yes but much better than any piano like the fp-10 onboard sound would. Or any digital piano. Even the ones that reach tens of thousands of dollars, users are stilling using software and not the onboard sounds. It's not only the sound but more importantly the feeling. Pianoteq has the feeling and expression of playing a real piano.

The fp-10 and fp-30x have the same keybed. Which imo and situation is the only thing that matters. I would get the fp10 and use the extra money to buy software for my piano sound. Which would be drastically better sounding and feeling than anything Roland has to offer onboard.

But I understand many people just want a casual home piano that anyone can easily sit down and play with no extra steps. In which case the fp-30x does have the better speakers.

What does that app do?
Pianoteq is one of the best software piano emulators. Has multiple editions and plugins based on how much you need.

But you don't actually need it, since the built-in Roland piano engine is very good. And there's something to be said to sitting down, pressing the on button, and starting to play. As opposed to finding your laptop/tablet, opening the app, etc etc.

The point of the commenter is that for very little money you have access to a great piano engine and keybed. And if you need more, you could get pianoteq and you'd get sound and feel comparable to pianos worth over $100k.

Costco (FRP-2-ACR) or FP-30x? Any recommendations for a newbie?

I believe you are asking whether you should get the fp10x (piano in the bundle) or the fp30x. I mean if the price is equivalent, im getting the better piano.

I would get FP30x, it's a better piano for not much more money. Great price even if it had no stand included.

The one thing that would make me hesitate is you get a 5 year warranty on the FRP2 bundle at Costco, and if you have any problems it is probably easier to deal with Costco than Adorama.

how does this stack up to the Costco deal?
I bought this Costco keyboard package for my wife for $500 yesterday. It's sitting under the Christmas tree! Go with the Costco setup fosho!

The bench and stand are perfectly fine. It's a proper wooden stand built specifically for it that the piano gets mounted to, and wooden seat, unlike the cheap folding stand/bench from Adorama. They're worth $200 alone. The Costco piano also has greater polyphony, which means it can simulate more sounds at a given time. It's not something a beginner is likely to notice or really matter too much, but it definitely is a nice to have.

There are some higher end Rolands under 1000 . This is a good beginner piano though
Yes but they all have the same keybed, the PHA-4.

I believe the first keyboard in their line up that has the next step up, pha-50, is the FP-90x. Which are $2000

Can only second this. I have Pianoteq and use it with my digital pianos and it's pretty awesome. Actually I also have a FP-10 that I use it with as well. Works great, but I think it's way overkill unless you record your pieces. One feature I specifically love is that it auto-records everything to midi files so I just keep it running 24/7 and I can literally see everything I've ever played and listen to it again.

Pianoteq costs $140. It's an expensive app. It does sound good.

hey - unfortunately my local shop sold out today. i was able to pickup the floor model for another -$150 discount, so for a total of $350 + tax! the legs of the seat are definitely chipped with bare wood showing, but i don't really mind.

my question is: could you tell me what accessories all come with the product? i couldn't find a list of all the accessories that came with the bundle and since it's the floor model, the manager said i would be stuck with whatever it came with.

also, there's a mentioning of the free classes - did your bundle come with some sort of KEY CODE to activate a free trial online for the free classes? mine also didn't come with any instructions or a code of any sort Frown
