I had an account I closed 12 months ago, so need to wait another month before I can open a new account for bonus.

Where does it say you can only open an account online if you live in a state with a Fifth Third branch? The offer page from the link doesn't make any mention of that condition.

He/she is saying you can open a new account "online" if you have a local branch. For people outside of 53 bank physical branch footprint can't open new account (online or in a branch).

I can't say for certain but a "Direct Deposit" is it's own thing vs what you are saying which would be a "transfer" so I don't think you could

Told me I couldn't open online, but it seems to have just disliked the VPN i'm on, which is always active. Opened on my phone just fine.

Transfer doesn't work. Some people have tried ACH transfer but that's a trick which may / maynot work

I live in Florida and it says I can't open an account online. No explanation given as to why.
