I think anything over 1k with this spec is overpriced. At least need better screen resolution and 32 gb RAM. Still waiting for a better deal as I missed Costco's BF deal.
I literally do not understand you lot. On QHD gaming laptop deals you guys complain how it's overkill and the dGPU won't be able to push that much resolution, and on FHD gaming laptop deals you guys complain about how it should've been QHD.
The perfect example is the recent Acer Predator Helios deal, on which someone commented how QHD wasn't needed. And now this.

I think there's no right or wrong answer here. Some people will want the enhanced gaming performance that comes from using a laptop 4070 with a FHD screen. To them, this is more important than the pixel density of a QHD display. Others will think FHD screens are outdated and lacking in detail. They will take the hit to gaming performance to have a QHD screen for general PC usage alongside their 4070. Still others don't want to compromise on either and end up with QHD and a 4080.

Many people, me included, are looking for a hybrid machine (gaming + productivity), ya I get it, lower res is not as taxing to the graphic cards, i would have been all for it if this has a qhd panel
did more digging just came to know that hp omen has their transcend line up, has all the bells and whistles, bigger battery, qhd+ panel, and lighter.........of course it costs more
i guess this is HP's way to do their product segments
Considering that HP.com was selling the 4060 version for $807 on cyber monday, this is not a slick deal.
It's not just about the GPU, look at the processor and other things as well. 7940HS paired with RTX 4070, this is as low as it would get for now.
Do yourself a favor and search "7940HS" on SD and then just see the prices with 4060/4070.

Yes, indeed. But as far as I know, the brightness is 400-nits and while that's plenty bright, for nitpickers it's still equivalent to 250.
The lowest transcend has gone for is $1349 which isn't that good considering Legion with similar specs has been the same price.

And on deals that let you upgrade, there are heated battles between the 2 sides
Man, I am torn on this one. I think it's just a tiny bit too expensive. I'd like to see this more in the $1000 - $1100 range.
Pros:
- The screen is NOT 1440p. This means you can potentially actually take advantage of the 165hz screen. You probably won't actually get to take advantage of the FULL 165hz in modern games, however, the difference between 120hz and 165hz if you're not playing eSports titles is mostly negligible. Anything in the 120-165hz range will feel like butter and you should be able to hit 120 FPS in a lot of titles, especially when using DLSS.
- RTX 4070 is solid value at this price.
- Ryzen 7940HS is probably overkill for this system, but a good value at this price.
Neutral:
- 16GB of RAM is passable for the price range.
- It has a tiny bit of stupid gamer aesthetic (the 16) on the hand rest, however all in all it doesn't look like it was designed by a child.
Cons:
- 512GB of SSD is barely passable at this price range. I would like to have seen a 1TB SSD in there.

I would love to see someone stake their money on their ability to reliably tell 1080p from 1440p on a freaking 16" display with the monitor frame and specs hidden. Can't be done. I've seen LTT try it with 24" screens. *I* have gotten it wrong on some of my own spare displays lol.
There is ZERO reason to go 1440p on a gaming laptop. None. Nada. It's harder on your battery, and it makes your GPU less effective.
I have a 32" 1440p screen. I even have a 35" ultrawide at 1080p. While the pixel density on the 35" is a little suboptimal in Windows, it's honestly hardly even noticeable in games unless you literally pause and look for it. That monitor has other issues however (VA panel, ghosting and flicker in gsync), but I digress.
The 32" is absolutely amazing and I've had a friend look at it CLOSELY and say "that's 4k, right?".
There is NO "gaming spec" as overrated as resolution. In fact, it goes into the inverse, causing so many to have worse gaming experiences because they listened to monitor snobs on Slickdeals or on YouTube reviews.

I bought a 15.6" FHD laptop last week and have it set side-by-side with my 16" QHD laptop. In a sense, you're right that in it is hard to tell them apart, but only if you're talking about gaming. Differences can definitely be seen in things like text and logos. The thing is, many people buy laptops for both productivity as well as gaming, and there is certainly some degree of advantage in terms of productivity for QHD. That said, I bought a 1080p 15.6" screen for gaming + productivity and am happy with it, and I'm someone who is spoiled with nice screens, having also a QHD 16" laptop, MacBook Pro Retina display, and a S90C OLED TV.

I just chalk it up to different markets for similar products.
Like, I personally prefer a 1080p screen on a laptop. But that's because most of what I use a laptop for involves attaching monitors anyways. For me, a gaming laptop is the best value for a portable video editing and 3d rendering work station. I also play video games. But for the last decade+ I have just used laptops as desktop PCs because I prefer the portability. So gaming was done on monitors at my home desk.
Now I have an actual desktop again. So it's even more-so just the appeal of being able to take a workload from my pc and take it to the office, or sit outside on a nice day to work.
So I'm interested in easily upgradable ram/storage space, minimum 4070 gpu, and a good processor in a backpack form factor. An extention of my stationary work station.
For people intending to actually enjoy modern games on the built-in screen, I can understand why resolution and hz and such matter more.
