An additional thing to consider. Around Christmas time I make sure to get as many of my purchases with no-rush shipping as possible. We don't stream Amazon videos that often and are not really app buying people. Ordinarily no rush credits would expire on us but when this deal rolls around each year, the non-gift card version is also discounted but you can apply your no-rush credits to it.

In a case like mine, the better deal is to forego the $10 gift card and instead use your Amazon no-rush credit bonus. Mine this year was $27 which means I was able to order Home and Business for $51 after tax.

Hi there,

We're reaching out to our TurboTax Desktop customers to share an important change to how you'll install and activate your software this upcoming 2023 tax season.

To install and activate TurboTax 2023 on your computer, you'll be prompted to sign in to your existing Intuit Account (or create an account if you don't already have one) before entering your license code. The software won't install unless you sign in to your Intuit Account online. Importantly, your product license code can only be associated with one Intuit Account.

Your license code will then be stored in your Intuit Account, should you need to install the software again.

Wow! This is bad on so many levels! People used to be able to file taxes for several people using one copy of TurboTax. Now, they want each person to use their own software. Intuit (an absolutely evil company for many reasons - google it) has been slowly training the populace to think that TurboTax is required to file taxes. Now they also want to associate an account with each installation which will provide a boatload of personal information to the company for whatever use they desire. They are taking away any semblance of privacy we have left if we fall for their scheme. Disgusting!

I'm an idiot. I ordered this by accident. I need the version with state. Amazon chat can't cancel the order for some reason. Would anyone want TurboTax federal for only $25? I'll eat the Amazon gift card because it's like currency to me. I'll send the code via DM.
Same, idiot 2. The one we bought says non-returnable, non refundable, state is +$40 from intuit.

The software will still do the state taxes and you can just pay the e-file fee.

if I purchase TT deluxe but would like to upgrade to premier in app, how much is the cost? I am not sure if I need premier and would like to find out if it makes sense to buy deluxe now and then upgrade later if needed or just buy premier outright if this save quite a bit more. TIA
You can upgrade within the software if you decide you need it. Not sure if there's a net difference or not.

State e-file is $20 and not included. Should we get this or wait for the one from Costco? Usually that one has a$10 state e-filling included.
Quote from oppman29 :
So the fed plus state requires that you pay to efile the state? Anyone know of Costco is free?
Quote from I8MyOats :
Wait why does it say on box "Federal+State" but in tiny tiny print below on product page, "State e-file sold separately"

So we have to pony up MORE money ($25) to e-file a State Return? Seems like this product should be adequate
Producing the state return and state e-filing is different. It's always extra to state e-file. Or you can print it out and mail it in. It's a convenience fee. I fall for it every year.

Warning for those who are not Prime members. Amazon is once again tacking on a shipping charge if you order the physical disc and gift card despite the fact that the order is over $35. (Technically, the gift card does not count toward the free shipping minimum but the graphic below says this order does qualify for free shipping.)

Last two times (last year and on Nov. 25 this year) if you added the downloadable version to your card along with the physical disc version, then removed the downloadable one, you were able to get free shipping if you were a non-Prime member. That trick doesn't work this time around.

Two years ago I had to call customer service before finalizing the order for the disc and gift card, and they were able to credit or remove the shipping charge.

Has anyone found a technique this year to remove the shipping charge from the cart for non-Prime members?

Edgar
It's like that every year. You have to toggle back and forth until it's free.

So does this mean no sharing? Usually I will share the software with my brother and we will install on two different machines. This year it looks like it will save info to one account. If I share, my brother will have access to my returns.
Quote from Denniss516 :
I also do that with my son, thinking about it, we both use the same key and log in info, the data file will be on our own computers, so we cant see each others taxes. Plus TT looks for previous data from last year to update. My data file is not on his and his not mine. So, I feel it will work separately. We just have to share the same log in. Am I wrong??
You can password protect the individual returns. Save with Password.

Not sure if this is considered a "life hack" or what, but if you check out from Amazon with a credit card but select the wrong billing address, it'll usually check out fine and submit the two orders (discounted TurboTax, $10 AGC). However, the bank will decline shortly after, so the two separate orders will require updated payment info. At that point I just leave the order for the gift card unpaid, and I update the TurboTax order to pay with gift card.

I get the discounted TurboTax without having to buy the gift card, and as an added bonus I can use a gift card to pay, which you normally can't do as the original purchase includes a gift card.

I imagine this depends on the bank involved (I use a Chase Visa cc), but let me know if this works for you.
What's the purpose of this?

Does anyone know for a state like NY where efile is free, do you need premier or will deluxe also have state efile?

Edit: I mean do i need the "free one state download" or can i just get the federal only version?

They apply only to the download version without a gift card.
Thanks for the response. I may buy the download version without a gift card. It sucks that the no gift card version costs $10 more but I have $20 no rush credits which I have no other use for. All my movies are associated with a different Prime account.
