Because H&R Block and Intuit work very hard to make sure the government isn't allowed to do so.

Yup! One word: lobbying.

Gotta love our corrupt system, causing people to spend millions of extra dollars and God knows how many man-hours filing tax returns that really have no reason to exist in this day and age.

Curious... About to purchase either this and realize our PC no longer has the CD drives. How do people use the CD version? Guess I have to purchase the download version unless I get an extra external CD drive to plug in.
Last year TT was giving the option to download, without inserting a disk.

You can buy a CD and convert to download if that's what you want. Not sure the benefit of doing so, but there is a way to do it:

I went back and looked at my last 5 years ordering premier and it was $55 every year. This isn't a deal you are just paying for the gift card.

Anyone know if these are better or same as prices at Costco? At least for the online price, seems the same. But wondering if they're a little cheaper in-store.
this one is cheaper, specially if you need only federalist only $36 and $10 gc.. so that's make $26 for federal. in for one

They should give you their best guess and if you don't agree, you do your tax return.

I will never understand this deal. They do it every year. But why would I pay $45 for a $35 product by itself plus a $10 gift card? Why not just buy the $35 product by itself? Since you're paying $9.99 for a $10 gift card? I don't need to save one penny. That's not a deal. The only deal is the markdown of the $60 software to $35
Looking around, there isn't a single reputable vendor selling these for any less. Better deals may come or they may not. Considering the amount of things I buy through Amazon, I'll consider my penny and $10 off a future purchase as paying last year's price.

I've been burned too many times before waiting for a better deal that never came.

It's the way the gift card is getting processed. Your item total is below $35. Add a cheap filler to save shipping.

The GC is today (12/27) only. You mean to say that tomorrow the price of each product goes down by $10? Does anyone know? I wasn't here the previous years, so I'm not tracking.

Same.

I even had to wait until 1 week before due date and it was that stressful. I learned the hard way especially when I always get refund every year so there is 0 incentive to wait.

Too much tax withholding is bad for my pocket and literally 0% interest rate to the government. Why would anyone do that is beyond every financially wise people.

A small part of me died when I had to pay taxes on tax software.
