It is possible you'll find a better price flying (depends on lots of factors), but you'll have a better experience with the train. Most likely you will depart and arrive from the city center (rather than an airport in the suburbs), not have to worry about getting through security or getting there 2 hours ahead of time, have a more comfortable ride in a much bigger seat where you can get up and walk around and go to the bar car, etc etc.

Traveling by train in Europe is completely different than in the US. It is a much better experience than flying and probably quicker door to door.

Is it cheaper to travel from Spain into Paris than flying directly into Paris?

Good luck using the Renfe website, it's pretty frustrating to use.

Iryo are amazing. We just used them in Spain. They were clean and on time.

Those are great prices, but I'm not sure it'll make sense to go from Madrid to Paris via train, flying is still gonna be much quicker and easier. This deal is especially good if you're visiting Southern France.

So if I have to get to Paris from Madrid, do I take this and a local train? Or would flying work out cheaper?
One big factor to conisder are your direct flight options. If you're coming through a major hub (Dallas, Chicago, New York/New Jersey, etc.) you may already have your pick of direct flights to either destination. Thus, if you're set on a single destination, you probably don't need to worry about a train leg unless there's some crazy low cost deal / carrier you're trying to leverage.

However, if you're coming through a hub with more limited international destinations you might benefit from building out a leg of your travel with a train rather than a flight.

Also, you can just have more fun trips! In this case, consider a vist that includes both France and Spain in one go. These train deals really come in handy when you've built a trip flying into one destination but returning from another.

Good luck!
Jon

Trenitalia high speed lines are truly great... but the system falls apart when/if you need to connect to a regional train.

I would suggest Renfe high speed lines are a solid travel option though my own experiences have included some closures/slowdowns which might have inconvenienced a traveler on a tighter or less flexible schedule. Was this the kind of problem you experienced?

Good luck!

The website does take some effort. But you (at least used to) get to hear the Untouchables end title music every time the train leaves, which is pretty badass.
