12k U-shaped one is $205 'like new'

https://www.amazon.com/Midea-Inve...r=8-2&th=1

I spent $300 on the 8k last summer, very much so worth it.
They're inverter based, so way more efficient and ideal for a bedroom where the steady hum is better then the on/off of a normal compressor.
The U shape also puts a lot more noise outside the window.

They are a bit tougher to install though, watch the video and read the instructions, kinda need both to get the full picture.

Who is paying 179 for 5000 btu? You can usually pick one up for around 79 at walmart during peak summer.

Problem is stuff gets buried so fast. Even really good deals once they fall half way down the FP votes tend to slow to a trickle unless there are frequent comments bumping it to the top of hot deals. Also if someone already viewed that thread, then these get added and passed on the ones listed, they'd never know about these models.

Probably would have been better to add this to the deal posted by AMZNDealFinder here:

Will probably add real OP as some weird out of context comment like usual.

Not $79 in 2023. Let's see what 2024 brings but I'm guessing not. But I do agree $179 is high.

Briefly saw the U-shaped one for $155 used, but now it's up to $200. That's the only one interesting to me. Loud and inefficient units aren't worth the lower price tag.

The mechanical ACs were $99 at the end of the season. Some places might have been $79 but you can't compare end of season prices with prices in June, when demand is high.

Yeah, you definitely want a window that slides up and down. Someone makes a window insert for horizontally sliding window, but it's pricey.

Inverter air conditioners are usually already quieter. Having a smaller window opening for noise to get through takes it to the next level.

If you don't like losing the view out the window. there are other u-shaped window air conditioners that wrap around the wall instead of the window, but that lower position might get in the way of other things, like you wouldn't want it if you have a couch backed against that wall.

I have the FFRA051WAE model, it's going on 5 plus years now and works great for a sunroom that we have that gets a little too toasty in the summer.

I wish, $79 sounds like a pre-COVID price. I paid $148 for this one [walmart.com] in June to run on a generator during a power outage that lasted a couple days.

My local Target had a bunch of 5000btu units on clearance for $59 late this fall. In my experience it's been similar every year. Of course YMMV.

I have to replace the in wall AC unit. Is it a simple process or In need a professional help? Are window AC units good for in wall too?
