I've had every Charge model since the 2+. The 5 sounds really good and this is the lowest I've ever seen it. Great bass even at low volume levels.

What's the difference between the charge and the flip? Is it just that it has extra battery to also charge your phone? Or is the speaker better as well?

40 watts vs 20 watts max output. Charge is a little larger and heavier. Sound is supposedly better on the Charge but to be fair, I haven't owned a Flip. I've owned several different Charge models and the sound is great. Bluetooth range better on the Charge, battery life better on the Charge. I'm sure there are other differences but those are the major ones, hopefully someone else can chime in with more.

Spotted at my local Marshalls yesterday for $90 clearance. YMMV

Seems like an inventory dump due to aging batteries.

Had a JBL Charge 3, the battery didn't last very long (maybe a year and a half) before it started not keeping a charge at all. Even playing music through it while it was still plugged in, it would eventually just shut off.

Can someone who actually owns one of these, answer a question?

I have a large patio on the back of my home, with a workshop about 20 yards away. We have setup a firepit and outdoor kitchen for parties. I was thinking of getting one of these for some occasional music while we are gathered outside on the weekends. I would like to know how loud these are and if it would pump out loud enough music to be heard throughout a backyard? If not, I'll look for something bigger, but was curious as to how loud or how far out you can hear this type of speaker. The money isn't the problem, I'm just scared to buy this or the newest model and then have it not be loud enough for gatherings in my backyard.

I have it and I've had several generations of it. I would say if it's a small party of 6-8 it will be fine but if you're talking 15-20+ people you may want to go bigger. I take the Charge to the beach and it does a great job. Bought this Anker Boom Plus for backyard large gatherings and it's good for that https://a.co/d/8KXoLaH

Outdoor parties and 20 yards away is no problem for the JBL Partybox 710. It'll easily fill your entire backyard and your neighbors yard with sound. If that's too much, JBL also has the partybox 310 that should do the job.

I was in the same position, tried the charge 5 and it just wasn't enough. Ended up returning it and buying the boombox 3. It's been a great speaker. Gets lots of compliments and people asking where to get it.
