I did some research for anyone non technical wondering the same question: in a simple sense single bevel essentially lets you cut angles up to 90. Double bevel lets you cut up to 165. Single bevel can do the exact same thing as a double, just takes longer because you have to rotate what you are cutting for certain angles.

Also, sliding miter saws let you cut thicker pieces of wood (because you can move it in and out) and might have longer durability.

Just keep in mind that single bevel does make cutting crown moldings less enjoyable, should be good enough for 2x4 and lumber. Anything wider than 8" I think is beyond reach as well unless flipping over.

Yes, it CAN do the exact same thing. If you are doing trim and don't know what you are doing, I already spend too much time trying to remember if I am cutting an inside or outside corner. And I screw it up 1 out of 10 times still. it's not simple like cutting a 90 degree. With a single bevel, not only do you need to remember what direction to cut, you know need to figure out if the trim needs to be flipped too.

I get this sounds like a non issue and it probably isn't for people that do it all the time. I would be livid if I didn't have a double bevel saw to save $50 bucks.

The sliding is not really a need for me or for trim. It only is needed if you are cutting things bigger than 8" which I have yet to do.

Could you clarify for someone who doesn't know and just getting into things? What does the bevel do and what would you recommend if not this? Going to be starting with Trim board replacement and then maybe working into other home DIY stuff

Wood based laminate flooring yes. If using vinyl planks, those you cut with a utility knife and snap off.

Yeah but I suggest the blade snapper things, they're awesome because you don't have to go outside. Just keep the snapper at the end of your run

I agree. The $100 snapper was a godsend. No mess, leave it inside and just snap the piece to size. Then sell it on Craigslist when done for $75 because it is not going to be used ever again.

I am a very novice beginner DIY enthusiast and have used circular saw of RYOBI in the past to cut wood sheet. Purchased a circular saw last month (not opened yet). Can you guys help me to decide if I should return that and take this miter saw ? Thanks.

If you haven't used the saw yet the chances are you don't need it since you can buy cheaper brands for occasional use for and be ok with them. This saw is stationary for trim work and more precise cuts and circular saw is more portable version that can be used on plywood sheets and bigger pieces of wood but less accurate because it relies on operator to make it stable.

Essentially for corner cuts in crown moldings you would need to do cuts from both directions but single bevel allows it only from one side so you have to flip the piece and position it correctly in order to do the other side cut, is specifications it lists up to 5 1/4" capacity nested which is enough for majority of commonly used moldings. They also state that it can cut up to 6.5" vertically BUT what they don't mention is that only applies if you're not trying to make cuts with right side angles because the motor will get in the way and not let make cut complete (dual bevel has motor in the back so it's not an issue for it).
If one plans to do 2x8 at angle or wider, steps/risers, shelves etc then slider is better option BUT it's also heavier and needs more room in the back for rails and dust collection is generally worse on them not that it's that great on non sliders.
