This looks like the Costco config that was a good deal last year. I'm still running with that, looks like a pretty good deal to me for a prebuilt you can just run straight out of the box.

You'd have a really hard time building this same pc with these same specs for cheaper. Maybe on the used market you could replicate it but good luck dealing with that headache, but still I'd bet you wouldn't be able to do it for cheaper.

I wouldn't get too excited over this.

https://www.techradar.com/reviews...wed-gaming

-Cramped design lends itself to potential overheating
-Construction could be more robust

It's a reason why it's being sold at this discount. Don't waste your time and wait for a better deal on a better PC.

Thanks. Apologies for my potential ignorance, but seems the setup you sent is only 8GB DDR4 vs. the 32 offered on the HP. Is that an inconsequential substitution in your opinion?

Separate of the gaming setup, I'm interested in a separate desktop for my spouse. Key use cases are standard document handling, photos/music and occasionally some semi-advanced crypto activity (e.g., heavy discord use, browser add-ins, simple RPAs, etc.). Does that change the recommendation at all towards a less powerful machine?

Thanks!

I was browsing some desktop deals this morning and remembered reading your message when this Acer popped up. i5-11400F, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD + 4TB HDD, GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5, Win10 Home. It's a little dated but is worth a look for less than $500.

There's also this HP Victus refurb for $397 with RX 6400. Throw in 32GB of RAM and you're all in for about $450 or so, with the 5600G offering about a 12% performance boost over the i5-11400F.

Missed it again. Must be an omen: I guess I just don't need it.

Awesome! Super helpful. I think I'll go the HP route. Looks like a DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, UDIMM, 288-pin option would work. I've narrowed down to one of these two on my own hunting (Corsair [amazon.com]vs. G.Skill [amazon.com]) Do you have an opinion for the tie breaker or any suggestions of alternative brands to consider? Thanks!
