Accroding to my favorite desert animal, this is the regular price. I'd really want it to be a good device, but it smells shilly
I think it's negligible. It runs off a couple of AAA batteries, so that can't generate much heat over the two year expected period between changes.

Without using home assistant, can I use this to set up automations with my humidifiers?

Looks like you would have to add this HUB to get it to work with Alexa

You would need either the switch it hub, home assistant, or Hubitat. Home assistant is there only local option.

I got a few of these earlier this year to monitor the temperature in my fridge/freezer.

I've only tried it with the SwitchBot iOS software and their hub, and it seems to work well for temperature notifications.

Does the heat from the battery cause your freezer to run more often?

I don't see that. I see that the price was reduced to the current price a few days ago, which is slightly lower than the previous best price. I would not be surprised if this product returned to a similar price in the future.

I purchased some other compatible products at the same time so it made sense to get these, but it might not make sense to get it by itself without a hub. It looks like it has less functionality if you don't buy a hub (or use Bluetooth with Home Assistant).

I have three of these that I use with Home Assistant, utilizing the Bluetooth built into the laptop on which I'm running Home Assistant. Two of them monitor my fridge temperatures, and the third is placed outside to monitor outdoor temperatures. They work very well, although I question the 394ft range; it seems more like 39 feet, or the range is based on open floor space. It could be my laptop with its potentially weak Bluetooth and antenna, but I couldn't get more than 40 feet away from my laptop. Fortunately, for me, that was fine since my laptop isn't far from my kitchen or where I placed the one outside.

Overall, I like the products; they work well with Home Assistant.

As for the price, yeah, these seem to fluctuate and this seems to be the normal sale price, I don't think I've seen them lower then this.

Have one. Works well on Bluetooth. Mine has been outside through one Florida summer with no issues. The hub is crazy expensive.
