Grain free is linked to heart disease in dogs. Two of mine have CHF, the vets blamed their food

So much for trying to feed them healthy

Domesticated dogs are not wolves. Feeding them a wolf's diet will likely lead to pancreatitis. A well-balanced diet is probably best for most dogs. Every breed has its recommended balance, so obviously, all should check with their vet for the best diet for your dog.

Wolves eat the digestive tracks of herbivores. Plus, domesticated dogs are not wolves. Grain free food is not typically recommended by vets. However, many dog owners will read a few posts on reddit and acquire knowledge that far surpasses veterinary science. You can't reason with them. There is no use trying. They find a niche food at Tractor Supply and then try to prove they are smarter than everybody else for feeding it to their dog by posting on forums like this one.

Anyone know the shelf life on this stuff? My dog is a puppy now and I'd like to get a few bags for the upcoming months

If you keep dog food in a cool and dry place, it will keep for a few months at least. That said I'm pretty sure you can only use the coupon for one item, and you'll find these coupons come up pretty regularly. You don't need to stock up to save money.

And yes, the "dogs are wolves" thing is misleading people in more ways than one.

I bought Merrick dog food a few years back from Amazon and it looked like goat poop and was hard enough to break teeth. I don't know if it was just the food or was it Amazon at fault but I won't buy this junk again. The 25% off works on many other dog food also I bought some iams lamb and rice for my dog.

Good deal though the 25 percent off should apply to a lot of other dog food. I bought Acana which I like for their organ meat content and also got 25 percent off. Also check for Discover and Chase shop with points offers (links on this site)

I've tried so many different dog food brands Costco/Kirkland brand is by far the best and cost efficient.

I somehow had a $7 coupon that stacked and the salmon & brown rice came out to $28.59 with 5% S&S.

If people are curious as to what they should feed I'd suggest looking up WSAVA. Read through what they're about. There's a lot of shady marketing hype in the pet food industry.

My Costco is hit or miss with dog food stock. They always have the useless grain free versions and go in and out of stock of the food with grains. I got tired of not knowing and just switched brands eventually

That's from studies where they replaced grains with lentils... which objectively are even more toxic... but that doesn't make grains healthy.
have you ever seen a wolf eat grains?
just feed them meat, they'll be fine.
A multitude of studies, some with inclusion of pulses as high as 45%, showed no impact on heart or overall health. While some pulses do contain toxins, lentils are notably devoid of phytotoxins. Lots of speculation around pulses in companion pets but no evidence. Grains aren't healthy? This makes no sense as grains have been included in pet food for decades without issue.

Yeah no grain free products for dogs. They should take it off the market

I'll say this with no disrespect whatsoever and you can thumb down me all you want. Debating kibble with grains vs kibble with no grains is like debating Burger King vs McDonalds. It's still kibble/fast food which overall is not the best choice for dogs.

Go with fresh/raw if you want the best food.

Yeah you can only use the coupon for one item per order, but you can use the coupon again on a separate order. That's how I did it to get multiple bags. Is the first one okay(healthy grains one)? My vet said to make sure Taurine was a listed ingredient which it is, but I'm at work so I can't at the moment do more research.

Lot of grain free food does replace grains with lentils. Also peas. Not the best
I feed my dog Instinct Raw Boost with whole grains dry food (not the grain free version), but I top it off with Kirkland's Natural Domain Turkey and Pea Stew wet food: https://www.costco.com/kirkland-s...51760.html

So I usually give her about a cup of the dry food and half a can of the wet food on top, both morning and night. Do you think the fact that there are peas in the wet food might be a bad thing? It does claim to be grain free but that's not even why I buy it... I just thought the ingredients looked good, and she seems to like it. It almost looks/smells like human grade food. And I figured since I'm using it as a topper on whole grain kibble it would be alright. But reading about the issue with peas/lentils being linked to heart issues in dogs makes me anxious now and questioning my choice. if anyone has a better wet food suggestion please feel free to let me know!
