Does this heat better than propane? Will pallets be also cheaper than propane?

Yes especially because of residual heat while cooling down. But its still expensive. I think a true wood burning stove is worth the cost. You can find free wood everywhere

This one takes pellets only, I don't think it's easy to find free pellets.. are you saying it's better to find one that takes wood chunks instead?

Fuel pellets are fairly cheap. You can use BBQ pellets if you choose.

I have one of these. I bought it at $249 a few weeks ago. (Hopefully they will give me a price adjustment) My experience is that it puts off as much heat as a normal patio heater but generates heat along the entire length of the device. It has a lot more ambiance than a normal patio heater since it's basically a small fireplace.

Pellets are $6.50/bag for 40 lbs at Lowes or HD. I mix regular pellets with cherry or hickory cooking pellets for a more pleasing aroma. It does not smoke a lot if you keep the firebox door closed. Its gravity fed so you don't need to plug it in. I like it. I'd buy again, especially at the lower price.

These put out a ton of heat. Issue is smoke on startup and occasionally gravity feed gets stuck. Both minor annoyances. These when the air is flowing put out tremendous amounts of heat.

I had one from Sam's. Great ambiance, gave off a ton of heat especially around your legs if you're sitting for example. With a traditional dome top propane heater, it's really just your head that stays warm.

Ultimately I ended up returning it. We use our propane patio heater under the Costco aluminum gazebo. It holds in all the heat this way and warms the area up nicely. With this pellet heater, I was worried about the soot accumulating on the white room. Wasn't worth the risk - and with little ones running around, the whole thing gets hot vs just the top. So that was a worry too.

If you're looking for something for open air with no little kids around, I'd say go for it - especially at this price.

Pellets are roughly the same cost as wood per BTU. Of course if you can get wood for free that changes things.

(Bought a pellet stove for my home a year ago after moving, lived in a home with a wood stove for 10+ years with "free" (I cut/split/stack/haul). Decided on the pellet stove as it's vastly easier and cleaner to operate, comes with a controller that's programmable, and now that I'd have to buy wood anyway, about the same cost to run)

I do not own one (although it looks pretty cool) but there are quite a few (less than 5 star) reviews on Costco complaining about the low heat output and that the 75K BTU claim is less-than-accurate.

I agree with Orange - heavy wood burning stove is the best if you're willing to spend the extra money.

but, just read some of the reviews on Costco about the heat output and maybe check out a Youtube video or two to make a decision.

It's still showing 249.99 with no asterisk at my warehouse in Northern California. Hoping it will drop soon.
