This seems a fair, not amazing, deal. I've been on the lookout for a new desktop with a 3060 12GB or above and a decent processor for Stable Diffusion. This is a refurb, but with 6 months MSI warranty included.

Decent price for the processor, a 3060 with 12GB of RAM. Only DDR4. Closest I could find before was some Costco in store units for less from earlier in 2023. Using PC Parts picker, with the components alone were around $1000.

Seems similar to this deal from November

I have this machine bought it for like $100 more than this back in like late July- early August its ...ok does the job swapped out the nvme and added another nvme, a SSD and 2 16gb ram stick.

A 3060 will play great at 1440p. It may struggle at 4K consistently. I really wanted the 3060 for the 12GB of RAM for AI/stable diffusion. Good discussion below. It will depend on the rest of the system, and the actual game itself. The 3060 is a 'mid range' card for gaming, typically retailing around $300, vs $400-$600+ for more powerful cards.

There's so many things NOT to like about this deal. It's a refurb. The processor, RAM, and GPU are a generation behind.

The only plus about this is the GPU having 12GB instead of 8GB.

I still think this deal should be cheaper but if you really want it, go for it.

There are a lot of SDers who are fast and loose with thumbs down, often for no apparent reason. In my opinion, this is a very good deal on par (or better) with the Aegis you linked.

The Aegis has a better GPU, GTX 4060ti level performance according to deelseaker, which I haven't researched.

This one throws in a 2TB HDD and 16GB more RAM, WiFi6 versus WiFi5, has a newer CPU that looks to benchmark about 10% higher in performance, 12 cores versus 8 on the 5800X. I think it's been crucified here because of the mediocre by modern standards 3060 GPU. But I doubt you'll find these specs at a better price. This is a very respectable gaming rig for the money, and probably the one I'd choose between the 2 because of the additional hardware included and newer specs.

IMO, the deal you linked to is better for gaming because of the graphics card, but I would get the one with the longer warranty.

Future upgrade wise between the two, which would be better? Let's say I can only upgrade the CPU. Will I be able to put newer generation of CPU's in either of the two PC's?

The Codex is the one with the better CPU upgrade options. Looks like the socket is good up to an i9-13900 series, although I'd check to be sure that the motherboard/BIOS supports your desired CPU prior to pulling the trigger on an upgrade. The AMD looks to be good up to a Ryzen 9 5950 series, with the same caveats as the Intel.

Intel's best CPU for their respective socket looks better than AMD's, but there are a lot of online comparison tools for you to judge for yourself.

The Intel build has newer CPU generations available, but both of these platforms are done, as in no more CPU generations for either. AMD recently introduced the new AM5, and Intel will introduce a new platform shortly.

For the AMD build, you can do quite well with what was until recently the best gaming CPU, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. But the Intel build would likely give you the best gaming performance in this matchup. Could theoretically go up to 14th gen Intel, which was released in 2023–2024, but that depends on whether the mother board manufacturer releases a BIOS update to enable that.

Do you still think you would buy this again at $780 for a refurb? And what do u mean that u swapped 2 16GB ram stick....it already comes with 32gb ram? I'm looking for my 10 year old who wants it to work with his VR headset...thanks!

I have this one the Codex I added 2 more 16Gb ram sticks it has 4 slots so I have a total of 64Gb. I'm not sure why the Aegis is more is has some more USB-C ports and I guess different fans more RGB I guess not sure if that's worth the $100 difference
