Seems like a solid deal. This or the 75in 6-series (from Walmart BF deal) for the same price? It's been sitting unopened in my garage. I have space for either in my living room and would use for occasional movies in a dark room.

There's been similar deals on this on here in the past. Comments are generally only 60hz and 4 series is garbage and unrelated comments based on specs. The ppl that actually bought it seem to be more than happy for the price. Nothing else comes up before the 21st I'll prob grab this myself.

As I noted on the 6-Series thread... if I had to redo it, I would have gone with an entry level 85" over the 6-series, for my uses - which are simply watching sports, watching streaming programming, and OTA. The immersion of the larger screen, I think, would be more interesting to me than the HDR/DV/120hz I experience on the 6-series. Regardless, the TCL is now my screen for the foreseeable future as it's hung and ain't coming down.

How does this one compare to the Hisense that was on clearance for $699 a few months ago? Shipping is $124 if you're not a plus member.

This is a 4 series TV from TCL (S4 model). Their model scale goes from 4 series (low end model) to 8 series (flagship model).

Bottom line - this is a budget set in a brand full of budget sets, so don't be deceived into thinking that this is one of their better TVs.

The 7 & 8 series are the best models that both TCL & Hisense make (not counting the Hisense UX).

If you want a higher quality model, you should be looking at the 7 series (Q7/U7K) or 8 series (QM8/U8K).

Almost bought this. Went in store to see picture quality and it's no better than my 10+ year old Phillips that's a 4K model. Just bigger. Decided to wait and see if the Hisense U8K goes on sale for Super Bowl. Picture is best quality I've seen next to OLED, and most of those for comparable sizes are $1k+ more expensive than the Hisense.

Most $500 TVs aren't 85" either. This may be true for a 65" for example.

I can't speak to the 85" but I'm loving my 75" TCL from Walmart deal! I'm coming from a 65" tv that was about 4 years old.

Kind of my thoughts. My current is a 2016 bf 60" vizeo I paid $200 for. I think this should be equal or better quality. I have a 32" tcl I've used outside for 3 summers and it's held up. Every tcl I've seen regardless of price seems adequate. I'm not sure I'd know or appreciate spending a few hundred more

I have a 50" 4-series from years ago that was my first entry into 4K. I'm still impressed by its picture when viewed against price.
I assume an 85" with no backlighting array will yield a very noticeable contrast reduction and overall washed out sections, depending on what you're watching and time of day.
But still, if your goal is 85" on a budget, you simply can't go wrong here.
Would I buy it? No, at $700-$800 I'm at a point where I care enough about PQ that I will spend double to get a higher model. But everyone's different.
