I have a 2280DW that must be 8-10yrs old. Works so good I recomend them to every one. I love duplex printing. paper is not as cheap as it used to be.
I came across older version of this printer (2320D) that uses tn630 toner that I keep in the other home. Both work fine on generic tonner. Both keep chugging along.
The only times I have issues on either is if a IOS device needs to print to it on the network.
This uses TN760 carts. I have not heard issues with generics, but I think they are now chipped, so refilling might be more involved.
This being a newer, better suported product, that probably is not a issue, but it was for me on older bro printers.

My only complaint is I sometimes have gotten annoying "Low Ink" pop-ups but the cartridge is still at least half full. Turned out to occur when I tried getting a knock-off cartridge brand.
