Were they the yellow zinc chloride ones (the cheapest they sell) or the orange alkaline ones?
I was desperate and bought the orange AA and AAA for my remotes and a fire alarm they barely lasted a month.

Maybe environmental factors are at play since all my stuff stays in the house.
I will say the free HF flashlight I got had some nasty leaky batteries, but not only are those not the batteries they sell on the shelf I also left that flashlight in my garage where the humidity could get it.
