  • Please see original post for additional details & give the WIKI and additional forum comments a read for helpful discussion.

Is there a benefit to using something like this opposed to just the free options like turbotax online? I can't remember the last time I didn't just use an online free option so can't remember the differences.

This seems like a great deal at a "net" cost of $7.99. My order last year was $25 and included a $10 gift card, so "net" cost was $15.

One benefit is keeping your income, ssn, and other personal information out of someone else's server.

No, I'm wondering how much that costs?

Agree I've used Credit Karma for a few years but now that I'm just married I feel I need something like this for both our incomes

A lot of people can't use the "free" editions once your income goes up or your tax situation gets even slightly more complicated. I have a fairly simple return and the online guys charge a pretty decent chunk of change nowadays. Haven't shopped it recently but pretty sure it was $50-70+ last time I tried. Been getting in on these NewEgg H&R Block deals for 3-4 years and have been happy with it.

It has been $20 to e-file state in the past.

Seems you will get hit with a $20 fee to e-file your state return though unless you are filing in just NY.
