I've puchased a D750, D7500, and a D780 from Nikon refurbs thru the years. All had less than 20 clicks on the shutter and looked and operated as new. Gtg.
Yes. It's a very capable camera and system. Are there better, more expensive cameras and lenses? Yes. But most of photography is about composition and technique. You can get fantastic photos from your smartphone. A camera like this is certainly more capable than your smartphone, but for the price, is an excellent way to get a feel for what a bigger more capable camera can do. It won't fix poor composition or technique though. This plus a fast prime lens can deliver some fantastic pictures that you wouldn't be able to come close on with something like a smartphone or a simple point-and-shoot.
A refurb direct from Nikon might be pretty safe. It's known among photographers that you're lucky if you have an early warranty issue with, for example, a lens, because when you send it in, it gets the kid glove treatment with cleaning and recalibration that's probably better than at the initial factory inspection. If they treat refurbs the same, then that wouldn't be bad.

Fyi,
Several years ago, I sent in my refurbished by Nikon D7200 because it was back-focusing. Got it back 3 weeks later and it was even worse. Had to send it back again and they finally got it right. Hope this was a case where it was an exception and not the norm

If you got the Canon R10 refurb at $500 last month, I think that's a much better deal assuming you're sticking with the included lens for a while. I kind of regret skipping on that deal.

I think that this deal is kind of weak considering how long ago the Z50 was launched. However, there isn't any successor to the Z50 yet, so Nikon doesn't really have any reason to lower the price.
