Great camera. I bought this refurb kit a couple months ago. My camera looked brand new. Came with a shutter count of 0. I highly recommend this. My latest photos on my Instagram were taken with it. Check out for examples https://www.instagram.com/v3g0pho..._source=qr

Nikon is doing great. Record profit margin in 2023, they have moved from entry level products and DSLR to more a expensive mirrorless lineup. They are selling $4000 Z8s instead of $400 superzooms.

Is Nikon even long term viable at this point? I was into Nikon gear about 10 years ago with a D700. All my fellow Nikon shooters have gone to Sony or Canon. What's the chances of Nikon folding in the next couple of years?

I currently own the D5100. Will my DX lenses work with the Z5? I have two prime lenses: 35mm and 50mm.

You would need an FTZ Adapter to get the F Mount Nikon Glass to Communicate to the Z Mount Z5. Well worth the investment in an adapter, as you can bring across all your old F Mount glass.

Your 35mm is probably of the DX (Cropped Sensor), will shoot as a DX on the Z5. Your 50mm on the other hand, should be a full frame lens (I am unaware of any DX 50mm Prime), and should give you full frame images on the Z5. Great for Portraits!

Fun Information: is your Nikon DX Crop Sensor (D5100 has) is effectively a 1.5X Multiplier on the Distance of a lens. So your DX lens on the full frame should shoot equivalent to a 52.5mm, and your 50mm, being a FX will remain as such on the Z5. So your 35mm will seem to be slightly zoomier than your 50mm.

Z cameras use the new Z mount as opposed to most Nikon's using the digital F mount.

Conveniently there is an adapter : FTZ

This won't move any of the old body/screw-focus lenses over but anything AFS or with a G will be fine. Any lens from the last probably 15 years.

I don't think your D5100 supports screw focus lenses either... If it works there should work on the adapter.

The Canon R10 refurbished was $499 recently. It's not a full frame, but the 4K 30dps recording has no time limit automatically enforced on video recording. You could also look into the R50 or R7 as well.

How's Z5's autofocus for shooting sports? Tight budget but want to shoot indoor highschool basketball. I have to figure a fast (f/2.8) zoom too so used price point is probably the only way to attain this. Any help will be appreciated.

Everything I have read suggestions this is not great for that. The z6 will outperformed motion shots

It's not a long term strategy if you cannot attract entry level photographers. Nikon users will eventually die off and then what?
