This is an odd reel, only 1000. I have the 6500, and I really don't like it. It doesn't feel very stout for a 6500. The "baitfish" attribute means you can press the black lever on the bottom, and it basically lets the line out, basically releasing the drag.

I guess it could be useful, if you are simply want to release the line, but not going to pull in much of a fish with a 1000.

It has a second drag for the bait feeding part so the line is not completely free. You can see the second drag knob in the back.

They hold up well. I've got several in different sizes. This is the ABF-b. The older AFB-a was more robust feeling, but I'm not sure if that was just the weight of the spool.

I've caught hundreds of fish on a 1000, but I didn't use a baitfeeder for it. I've caught many catfish and inshore saltwater fish on 3000 and 4000 baitfeeders.

Yes, I have the AFB-B. its going on a backup rod, I don't like it.

i've had a few of these over the years. the baitfeeder function always ends up breaking on me. not many name brand baitfeeders available at this price point so if you're only going for small fish might be ok. if you're looking for something sturdier you might want to consider the shimano baitfeeder.

"Avenger."

What needs to be avenged? Did a fish once outsmart the designer of this or something? And now, via this reel, it's payback time?

There also a "Avenger + 3-Piece BBQ Set" option... Lol!

I've never seen a 1000 sized bait feeder so wondering if this is an error in the description?

I'm adding a comment because I bought 4 of these 4000 size to pair with ugly still tiger rods. Bought them because of a sale at $40 some time ago on Slickdeals. With light normal use 2 of the 4 reels bait feeder function stopped working within a year. 1 fell off the rod holder while bank fishing and the handle snapped off. It's plastic. Okumas customer support was not good and they offered to sell me a new handle for $30 plus shipping. I'm on Texas coast so we commonly catch 30lb+ black drum and the reel frame noticeably flexes like crazy to the point where it becomes awkward to reel in. I have since upgraded to Penn live liners and haven't looked back. Maybe Okuma has a better quality line of reels but these are almost toys for saltwater.

These are quite heavy. Just took one off of my surf rod… felt like my arm was going to fall off part way through the day.

This is inaccurate.

Baitrunners give you two different drags. Typically you set one drag loose so that you can hear the fish take the bait, she then as soon as you start reeling it flips to the second drag setting.

We use three larger versions of these for small sharks, alligator gar, and bull redfish on the Texas Coast.

They've held up exceptionally well for us. We rinse with fresh water after use and they are still going strong after 18mo.
