Fast (one of the fastest) and small (one of the smallest) and USB-C (not many on the market) makes this an instant buy if you need it, especially at this rock-bottom price. Literally 2 days ago I checked at it was $32 on Amazon.

If you have an iPad with USB-C, you can load this up with movies and shows and use something like Infuse to watch them. The drive is so small, it barely sticks out.

Fast transfer, but if you need to transfer very large files (ie. > 100GB), it heats up and fails.

These little things are fantastic. But if you need more than just usb c, I'd recommend the Sandisk 2 in 1s but they aren't as fast.

Decent price but only around $5 than typical.

Another consideration is to pick up a cheap PCI 3.0 NVME 256gb drive for like $20 and add an NVME enclosure for really fast speeds. Will be much larger though.

Could also consider 2230 drives like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Enclosure-Direct-Attached-Wireless-10Gbps-Adapter/dp/B0CP85BQKV [amazon.com] - but the 2230 drives are usually more expensive than 2280s.

I've seen nice stuff like the PCIE 3.0 BC711 sell for $13 brand new though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/204565827589

I did this, and even when the drives are 'idling' they get so incredibly hot (I used some spare 2230 256gb WD drives pulled from laptops).

Does this get pretty warm for anyone else while it's plugged into their phone? Is it because of the small form factor or what

Also, is there a similar product available that is 512 GB? Fast name-brand 512 GB microsd cards can be had for like $30 now

I have two of these and love them. I really, really wish they had them in 512GB though.

I have this drive - it gets hot when transferring large amounts of data to it. I store football games on it and it gets very warm as well when I watch them.

Yeah, the dual ones are good if you're constantly going back and forth. Also, if you don't have a constant need for USB-A, you can pick up a 3-pack of USB A-C adapters for under $3 on eBay and have those around for older computers (or even leave one in an open USB port on each older computer for plugging in USB-C devices)
