I have both, including this very same tool, bought just last year. It's way quicker for cutting limbs and even small trees. That said, it's not as safe as a reciprocating saw, and requires more attention when using and maintaining (oiling, chain tension, de-vining, etc).

While a *reciprocating saw will work in a pinch, they are heavier, more awkward, more expensive, and not designed for branches. Plus, I don't have a battery op reciprocating saw lol.

Decided to go ahead and grab 1. With the extra 20% off coupon the total was $32.35 after tax. The power cleaner from the $30 Walmart deal arrived today, and this will now give me an extra battery to use with that without having to spend $45 on an extra battery itself. I'm sure it will come in handy with all the small limbs in the yard after today's storm, and when spring comes and it's time to trim the bushes in the yard.. My area is under a tornado watch for the next 3 hours so hopefully we make it through without anything worse than we've already seen.
