5950x is not a gaming CPU so I dont know why its lumped together with the X3D. Not many productivity apps I know of uses L3 cache.

400 dollars for 16 cores 32 threads is a decent deal especially if you dont want to upgrade to AM5.

If you're going to use your PC mainly for gaming, this wouldn't even be on your radar.

X3D is good for gaming.
Not everyone is all into gaming.

Some run virtual machines or docker/containers to provide services to small home or small office.

Some run Android emulators to bot games to get virtual game items in mobile games.

If one still got a lot of DDR4 RAM sticks from all of these years ago and got an old/used AM4 board, it makes sense to stick with 5950x.

Some use 16 cores to mine the cryptos. There was a time when it makes sense in $$ to have 5950x and not 7950x because the DDR5 costs, AM5 board costs, CPU costs etc.

Someone who already has an AM4 system. Why spend 700$ for a platform change when they can spend 400$ for a huge upgrade?

Considering AMD is still supporting AM4 with more processors this year.

Plus for video editing and real cpu insensitive programs this is actually hugely more powerful than a 7800x3d

Why would anyone get this over an X3D or a 7000 series processor

It might make sense if someone is already heavily invested in the AM4 platform, but this would have to be a somewhat specific edge case where they can't live without additional cores.

If you already have a AM4 socket MB that will support it and want a near HEDT style processor for workstation tasks.

Seems too little too late. AMD are releasing new AM4 processors with more cache to make up for the fact that the low cache gimped gaming on X processors. Also there is weak demand for AM5 whilst ddr5 latencies suck BIGTIME and pcie5/nvme lane design is super expensive on mobos

Perfect cpu for 3d rendering like Blender .. although $400 still seems high, I think I payed that 2 years ago.

What's the recommendation for a gaming pc with streaming capabilities? Mostly Fortnite,Minecraft, Roblox, and some streaming, minimal video editing for YouTube? I'd like a family project assembling it.

Case, monitor, cooling, and Windows I can figure out.

I just need a mobo, graphics card, ram, psu, cpu recommendations from the Slickdeals crew.

Probably shouldn't get this as I have a 3900x and I don't really need the extra cores. But something about maxing out my AM4 platform with the top processor is appealing.

I need a cpu that can run task manager to view all the cores, does anyone think this CPU could power that?
