I would hardly call 16:10 FHD+ 300 nits IPS screen "garbage" but you do you.

The point of IPS is better colors, which is completely defeated by 45% NTSC. 300 nits is basically the minimum. Garbage screen.

The point of ips is wide viewing angle. The minimum nit these days is 250 nits especially in this price range. 300 nits is more than enough for indoor use. Instead of trashing this, how about listing alternatives of similar specs with a better screen at this price? Oh, because you can't. Garbage post

Not for a 16" laptop? The nominal use case isn't like a monitor or TV

Yeah it's going to be exclusively indoor use and somewhat unpleasant for anything dark in a well let room.

There were definitely quite a few deals over the last 3 months in the 450 - 600 range with much better screens and overall specs, as this is also a 12th gen intel. For $599, here's one that outclasses it in every way:

I guess you have never looked at a tn laptop screen vs an ips screen? Huge difference in viewing angle. You have to tilt the screen perfectly or it will be washed out. Then you move your head even just a little bit and it's washed out again.

As for brightness, I have used as low as 250 nit screens in full lit room with no issues. 300 nit is more than good enough.

$600 is a full 20% more than 500. There are people on a strict budget. You can't compare 600 to 500.

Thanks for replying with additional information. Mainly as a reader (SD lurker), I found this to be much more useful than the earlier "garbage screen" reply.

I also agree with superslickz re: IPS screen on laptop. Cheaper laptops with TN panel usually has washed out color with blue (cooler) overall temp, very unpleasant to look at. I also agree in regards to brightness. To my sensitive eyes, 250 nits is enough for indoor work-related use. But, probably so-so if the intended use is gaming.

Not going to keep going back and forth with you. At this point I think we've both made our opinions known, people can make their own decision based on their constraints after reading the thread.

The higher the number of nits, the brighter the image will appear. The average laptop has a maximum brightness of 300 nits, which is more than enough to see clearly in most situations.

Got anything currently available? No? Next BF is 10 months away and time machine deals are a no-go for me until I get mine fixed.

You can't possibly buy a laptop and not use it outside in direct sun!!! I've been buying laptops since 2006 and just kept them in the closet for 10+ years because they weren't 300+ nits, you sillyhead. shake head
I think I'm deciding to go OLED with my next one, but this looks pretty good for the price.

nod
I've a basic Dell 24" 1080p monitor with 250 nits and I've set it to 75% brightness just to be comfortable with my work, laugh out loud.

Resolution wise, for workstation, I think I'd rather have 1920x1020 @ 100% scaling than 2560x1600 or 4K @ 150%.
