Maxed out configuration for the 14 inch. Would be nice if it was the 16 inch version. The 8TB should make this usable into the next decade.

Compared to microcenter deal it's about 1k more for 6 TB extra storage. Seems pretty steep. I think 2 TB should be plenty for most people

If you need 8TB (probably video and photo professionals), this is a good deal. Yes M3 is faster, but no noticeable difference during the normal workflow until final rendering. Personally I prefer 14 inch because MBP 16 is heavy.

But I don't need 8TB

You can buy a 2-year Asurion warranty with it for $139. Apple still sells this exact model in their store for $1100 more. Relatively little difference between this and the current 2023 model.

Usable until the SSD fails, Louis Rasmussen (YT) talks about this at length and how they are prone to fail, CPU over voltage issues and poor water proofing as well. These M series MBP SSDs are very difficult to repair/replace as practically everything is soldered to motherboards. This goes for SSD, RAM, etc.

Many people buy top spec hardware to combat depreciation (especially with everything soldered on the M1/M2/M3, so not upgradable for the majority of users) and will almost always command the resale prices.
