This area is where to stay if you can't get reservations to stay in the park. Nice find.

Unless you're going for Firefall, in which case it's the prefect time. That's also likely why they specifically excluding the weekend dates.

If you are close to the park its worth visit just for that. But if you are out of state plan on the spring when snow melting.

yea, sadly they started charging for membership beginning jan 1st Frown
i'm not defending them but i know many other sites charging subscription fees for the same stuff offered here, like my travel deals for example. the los angeles - tokyo airfare deal i posted here was my find and first-to-find....then 6 hours later i see it on other sites, including travelzoo (who charges for membership to get the deal Huh ) PLUS gave credit for the find from another site that charges for travel deals

Exactly, I stayed on thay hotel two years ago, paid,$100 on Hotwire. Yes, it's one hour to reach the valley.

That's absolutely true--it'll be 1.5 hours from the hotel in Oakhurst to Yosemite Valley. And, in winter you have to be aware of chain control as they will require you to have chains in your possession, even if you have AWD/4WD. But, this is only about 10% of the time, and they often relax the mandatory chain restrictions by late morning if there is a snow storm that ends overnight and doesn;t have much accumulation. Info on Yosemite chain control: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyour...chains.htm

Yosemite also has a special deal this winter (https://www.travelyosemite.com/) that runs until mid-March that gets you the 3rd night free. This averages out to about $200-$250/night for a room in Yosemite Lodge. This gets you right in Yosemite Valley.

You can also search for hotels in El Portal by the west entrance. Hotels there are cheaper than in the Valley (around $150-$180/night), and you are about 30 minutes from Yosmeite Valley, and along the Highway 140 route, which never goes above 4000 feet, and is the least likely to be closed due to snow, or have chain control, unlike the hotels in Oakhurst which are along Highway 41 that goes up to about 7000 feet and is more likely to require chains.

Winter has always been my favorite time to visit Yosemite. It is serenely beautiful, peaceful, quiet, can literally feel like you have the place to yourself…obviously timing has to work out that you're not in the middle of a snowstorm, but it can be quite lovely. Sure you'll need to be a touch adventurous, be experienced with chains, etc., so maybe not for the average tourist.

Best accommodations that mix value and proximity would be Yosemite View Lodge, right on 140 outside park entrance (140 is the route least impacted by winter weather usually). In comparison, Oakhurst (this deal) is a relatively long drive from the Valley, especially in winter.

Went there week of MLK holiday and it took forever to get to the pay station. Literally feel like a car accident or something. People were getting out to walk and even look for places to pee. When we got there only one person was accepting payment while another guy didn't do anything. Thinking about it again pisses me off.

MLK day (Jan 15) happened to be one of the free admission days for National Parks. There are 6 during the year (https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit...-parks.htm) and it's best to avoid going on those days.

It's best to get to the entrance as early as possible (8am-9am: the Rangers may not be at the entrane before 8 and you can just drive in, but they would sometimes check cars on the way out if they have a receipt). After that, there will be lines on weekends and holidays that go for a mile or more and it can take over an hour to get in. After about 12/1 pm, the lines are less.

Not sure how this is a deal at all... especially with the membership fee BS. Super.com has better rates at the same hotel. I did a random search (midweek Feb 22nd), and the rate is $92 with breakfast included.

Personally, I won't stay outside the park.
