About these books:
  • These are part of The Three-Body Problem Series (4 total books).
  • The Dark Forest: Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion-in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy. Only the human mind remains a secret. This is the motivation for the Wallfacer Project, a daring plan that grants four men enormous resources to design secret strategies, hidden through deceit and misdirection from Earth and Trisolaris alike. Three of the Wallfacers are influential statesmen and scientists, but the fourth is a total unknown. Luo Ji, an unambitious Chinese astronomer and sociologist, is baffled by his new status. All he knows is that he's the one Wallfacer that Trisolaris wants dead.
  • Death's End: Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to co-exist peacefully as equals without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. But the peace has also made humanity complacent.

You're bugs!
I'm Chinese American and I couldn't put book 1 down. It was really interesting reading about events my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles lived through personally. My parents were just young enough to avoid all the negative fallout, get an education, and build a life in the US.

All the scientific concepts are absolutely spoon fed so I don't think high IQ is a requirement...unless you're joking?
People that talk about IQ tend to be of the low IQ variant, and hence focus on that.

It's less about IQ and more about effort.

Not sure why anyone would compare this to Project Hail Mary? OK, both science fiction, but Hail Mary is funny, not to be taken seriously, enjoyable to read... Fist my bump! LMAO
This one, while an interesting idea, offers 0% humor, is draaawwwn out and a struggle to get through, well at least for the non-Chinese me.
I found Ball Lighting a better read, but along the same lines.

I liked it, but the criticism about the unrealistic dialogue is true. Still got sucked in and read through each one straight on my free time over a couple weeks

Still beyond most peoples' scientific competency/knowledge.

Amazing books, showcases a different culture and approach to writing. One should remember that translation almost invariably causes loss in quality of writing. It is one of those rare books/series which made me wish to know the original language.

True, the insight into Chinese thinking (communal) was still evident though which I guess is part of the appeal of the books

FYI, the Remembrance of Earth's Past series has only three books with this being the second. There are places that claim the series has four books, but he fourth one, The Redemption of Time, is essentially fan fiction. Cixin Liu, the author of the trilogy, was not involved in the fourth one and was more or less forced to approve it (politics). I thought the trilogy was among the best science fiction I've ever read, but it can be tough reading it as a westerner, both due to things being lost in translation, and also the Chinese focus on the story vs the hero. Netflix has an localized adaptation and Tencent in China produced Three Body which covers the first book in 30 episodes.

The ending of the series is ridiculous for sci Fi. It makes no sense when considering momentum. I expected more of an effort myself. It is up and down overall. Some good and bad like many works of literature.
